2022 Football Roster

Putting together a 2022 roster. Sharing my tweet because when I add a spreadsheet here it looks terrible lol.
Removed Ross. I do think he needs to move on. Cant afford more injuries in college. McFadden staying. Per Dabo today.
66 total. 13 commits. 6 open spots.
Known spots they are recruiting to fill are RB, WR, DE, and DT. Moved Jihaad over to DE spot. Had him at LB before.
Let me know if I need to update anything.
This is for depth and scholarships. Not really for "replace the entire OL" stuff. lol

I believe you could see 4-6 more transfers

From that projected roster between now and May primarily based on lack of playing time.
And this goes to Dabo's point today about no one really knowing what their recruiting numbers can and should be. If you don't know a guy is leaving until the spring it's almost impossible to recruit a proper number.
The portal will have thousands of guys passing through it this year, but let's be honest, only a handful are guys we would need and target. And an unintended consequence of the ease of transfer now I think will be many of those guys walking away from full scholarships and not being able to find a landing place.
It is a disaster

and I think it gets much, much worse from here. It is quickly draining the life out of the experience.

Something has to give eventually. Coaches can't properly manage their rosters now. High school seniors are getting overlooked for transfers. Players are quitting on their team during the season.
There has to be a point where you have to put some sort of limits on it due to the integrity of the school and due to the benefit of the player. Many of these guys don't end up in better places.
I agree with Dabo in that, you can claim Clemson should use the portal...but name 1 RB right now that wants to come and sit behind Shipley and Mafah. No one in the portal wants that.
Most don't want to compete for a chance to start either. They have 1-2 years left and they want to play now. Even on Clemson's OL. No way a guy who wants to play LT and try for the NFL is going to accept a "depth role" at guard.
I don't know how it's all going to shake out but they need to make clear rules and I wish they wouldn't allow guys to just jump in the portal during the season. If you commit to being on the team, then you commit until December.
And letting the guys enter the portal in May is bad too. By then you have made your roster and are prepping for the season. They bail then, it's a free for all to pick that player up. And you are likely kicking another player to the curb in the process.

Honestly, it's better if they leave in season

with the current system. At least you can adjust your recruiting. Leaving after spring ball leaves little room to adjust

Even leaving mid season is almost too late, it seems so many recruits are commiting well before their senior HS seasons even start. Meaning by the time we have a spot open up because a 4 star transfers out, there may only be 3 stars to choose from to fill it.

We've had an awful lot of 3 star recruits

in Dabo's tenure who became great players. Yes, you need the studs. But those guys who develop over 2-3 years with the right make-up are what have really solidified our great teams. Even this year, guys like Skalski, Spector, McFadden, Ohrororo have been standouts.

Your 6 open spots is correct when also considering the three “1-year” scholarships (they are not automatically renewed). I think they still sign 1-2 more, leaving 3 or 4 for preferred walking, portal, etc.

If less 2022 High School players are recruited because of Super Seniors and the Transfer Portal. Couldn't Dabo find a few good H.S. prospects that would take a gray shirt to play for Clemson and get their Scholarship as spots open up. Just a question. Not sure how that works.
