1981 National Champion Rings

Does anyone know the story of the rings for the 1981 season? Was there an Orange Bowl ring AND a National Championship ring? Were there two different options or did Seniors get a different ring? I have seen two distinct rings from the year and have always wondered.

I was told by a former member of the 1981 team that they didn't get ACC Champions rings that year so the decision was made to get them 2 rings for the Orange Bowl. The players names were engraved in the National Champions rings and not engraved in the Orange Bowl Classic rings.

The Orange Bowl rings have the players name engraved on the inside.

You have to remember that before 1981, Clemson didn't have the notoriety they have now -- best thing we had was 1974 Undefeated Home season Pepsi Bottle*** GO TIGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!

We clearly had Gator Bowl Championship rings in 1978. I think that ranks higher than a Pepsi bottle.

To clarify: the Orange Bowl ring with the diamond in the middle does have the players name engraved. The Orange Bowl ring without the diamond in the middle does not have the name engraved.

I get it doesn’t have their names on the outside like a class ring, but the non-diamond ones do have last names engraved on the inside of the band.
