I'd lean toward this too.

Split the super conferences up into 9 team divisions. Win your division and you are in the CFP. Still leaves rooms for At Large bids assuming 8 divisions. Give 2 autos to the G5s and 6 at large for the best left.

Boom! Heckuva playoff.

I like the 12. Round 1 is basically a play-in. Real playoff starts in the quarter finals with 8 teams.

There were never 4 truly elite teams - it was always a 2-3 team upper tier

It’ll be interesting to see how it finally shakes out, but I’m betting that in Tigernet hindsight we’ll remiss that only four teams really had a chance.

I have said for years, you can as many teams in the playoff as you like, but you will only have 4 that can win it every year.
