Sad to say but looks like this year Clemson and Fla St has been replaced by UL and UM. Louisville is going to be more than a handful at their house.

True, think we have lost to almost every team with a pulse in the ACC recently.

We have a current losing streak to:
-Miami
-Louisville
-Syracuse
-Duke
-Georgia Tech

FSU and SMU are subject to possibly be put on this list soon. Good thing we don't play Pitt or UVA this year.

Mind boggling how far the Clemson program has fallen.

Sad part is it was totally preventable.

No team in the history of college football has prevented it.

Nil has hurt our high school recruiting as we no longer getting those classes we did a few years ago. Players are simply being bought off from Clemson in that regard. As a result we no longer have the dudes out there we once had. We are weaker from high school recruiting. Then there is the transfer portal. Many other teams in our own conference and around the country have made themselves better than they used to be using the portal. Now, we are not as good as we use to be and the teams we are playing are better. Net result is what we are seeing on the field in each game.

Are these tools not available to Clemson?

The situation is unique. Never has there been an NIL or a play next year transfer rule like their has the last 5 or however many years.

We have the same coach that dominated college football for the better part of a decade. The same coach that was evolutionary in how he built his program, when faced with the new challenges, has decided he is so above it all, that he doesn’t need to change with the times. Now our team looks like a total shell of itself, and the talent has dropped each year to where next season, on paper, looks like a losing season.

Do you really think this was not preventable? You can’t expect to win a fight with one arm tied behind your back. All of this is self imposed.

I said no team has ever prevented a changing of the guard. None. Ever. In the history of college football.

And every era has unique challenges. Every single one.

the truth, I think, is that Dabo could have prevented our demise.

And the lack of “changing with the times” is only half of it. The coaching and extended staffing hires have been an abomination. Totally beneath Clemson and Dabo.

Not one team except ours (and service academies, which are not able to) has refused for 4 years to utilize all the tools available to all teams to upgrade their personnel. Not one.

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Are you suggesting that there is a team who has stayed on top forever?

If not, I’m not sure what we are debating.

The two statements can be true at the same time. It could’ve been preventable (short term) and inevitable (long term).

I’m leaning more towards that based on decisions made. Literally dozens of decisions.

We were largely gifted that ACC championship last year. A classic case of "better to be lucky than good".

Surely we have had a disappointing season thus far. But also certain other teams have significantly improved, not just us stumbling which takes away the growth of these other teams. GT will likely be in the playoff come January. Brent Key is building a power there, assuming he stays long term and they get someone to replace Haynes King when he leaves.

Miami will eventually do what they always do, since a curse seems to have fallen upon them when OSU beat them in the ‘03 natty. Canes fans have done nothing but cry about "it wasn’t a penalty!", as they’ve had false dawn after false dawn for over a decade. As for teams like Duke supposedly being "better" than us… that’s a joke. Just because of one bad game against them doesn’t change our ownership of them.

They have used the portal wisely from the get go. They have a senior experienced good QB each season. They appear to be the best coached team in college football also.

I don’t think Dabo is wired for the current era of college football.

If Dabo had retired at the end of the 2018 season and another coach came in and produced the results Dabo has since then, that person would be sitting on a flaming hot seat or fired.
