Plyler: Crosby Will Not Return to Clemson |
CLEMSON – According to sources close to local sports talk host Mickey Plyler, wide receiver Roscoe Crosby will make it official in the next week that he will be leaving college and college football behind to play professional baseball for the Kansas City Royals organization full time.
Crosby left school this past fall to undergo “Tommy John” surgery on his throwing arm. The NCAA allows an athlete for medical reasons to take a one-time semester exemption from classes. He had been expected to return to the field for the Tigers in 2003 after completing 24 hours of classwork to become eligible. As a freshman Crosby had 27 receptions for 465 yards and four touchdowns in 2001. He set a Clemson record for receptions and reception yards in a season by a first-year freshman. His 139 receiving yards in a victory over Duke on December 1, 2001 remain a Clemson record for a freshman. He also caught a scoring pass in Clemson's Humanitarian Bowl victory. A first-team USA Today and Parade All-American, Crosby is one of the most highly recruited players ever signed by Clemson. Crosby joins Ben Hall, Tymere Zimmerman and Derrick Higgins as losses from the 2001 class which was considered the best receiving class the Tigers have ever signed.
