ORLANDO – Key games in the ACC and Big 12 Conference this week should go a long way towards clearing up the selection process for the Champs Sports Bowl. Florida Citrus Sports (FCSports) announced today that it will send Champs Sports Bowl scouts to five games this week, including four games involving Atlantic Coast Conference teams.

In the ACC, FCSports will send bowl representatives to Georgia Tech (6-3, 4-3) at Miami (8-1, 5-1), Virginia Tech (8-1, 5-1), Boston College (7-3, 4-3) at Maryland (5-4, 3-3) and Clemson (6-4, 4-4) at South Carolina. Boston College, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Maryland, and Virginia all remain in the ACC mix, as does idle Florida State (7-3, 5-3).

In key Big 12 action, Champs Sports Bowl will send scouts to Missouri (6-4, 4-3) at Kansas (5-5, 2-5). Seven teams are bowl eligible in the Big 12, while Kansas and Texas A&M remain one game short of bowl eligibility. Oklahoma State can become bowl eligible with wins in its last two games. Iowa State, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Kansas, and Texas A&M all remain on the selection committee’s watch list.

The Champs Sports Bowl receives the fourth pick after the BCS from the ACC and seventh pick from the Big 12. This year’s game will be played on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 at 5 p.m. and will be nationally televised by ESPN. The total payout for the participants is $1.27 million and marks the game’s first post-Christmas date in Orlando.
