Martavis Bryant is still patiently waiting on his reinstatement from the NFL as Steelers' training camp has opened up a week ago.
Bryant received an indefinite suspension early last year that required a period of roughly a year before he could apply for reinstatement. He has been suspended for a total of 20 games during his first three NFL seasons. An NFL spokesman told the Post-Gazette on Friday that Bryant still has requirements to fulfill before he allowed to practice with his teammates. “Bryant may join the Steelers at the training facility and participate in meetings, conditioning work, and similar activities,” the statement said. “Once arrangements have been confirmed regarding Bryant’s clinical resources in Pittsburgh, he will be permitted to participate in all preseason activities, including practices and games.” Even if Bryant is allowed to practice, the NFL will monitor his case thoroughly before allowing a full reinstatement. “Prior to the start of the regular season, the NFL will review Bryant’s progress. Based on his compliance and engagement with his program and resources, he will be permitted to participate in all regular season activities beginning in Week 1. He will be evaluated later in the season for full reinstatement.” There is no timetable for the NFL to make a decision on allowing him to practice. In two NFL seasons in just 21 games, Bryant has an impressive 76 catches for 1,314 yards and 14 scores. The Steelers drafted Bryant in the 4th round, (118th overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft after a Clemson career where he had 61 receptions and 13 touchdowns.
