NCAA denies former Clemson guard's appeal which ends career |
NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University head basketball coach Jeff Jones announced today that Donte Hill’s appeal for the waiver request for an additional season of competition has been denied by the NCAA. Hill played 8 minutes in a closed scrimmage at Clemson before transferring to ODU and that one scrimmage cost him a year of eligibility.
“I am very disappointed by the NCAA’s decision to deny my appeal, as I was hopeful there would have been reconsideration for my case, I am very appreciative of the efforts on my behalf by Old Dominion. I enjoyed my time here and I will be a Monarch forever.” – Donte Hill “Obviously, this news is extremely disappointing to our staff and team and of course to Donte,” said Jones. He had a short, but successful career at ODU and more importantly has his sociology degree from the university. Donte is a great representative of the ideals the NCAA encourages in its student athletes. We know Donte has a bright future ahead of him.” Hill, a 6-4 guard, transferred to Old Dominion from Clemson in 2011-12. He played in 23 games as a freshman for the Tigers and in one practice scrimmage as a sophomore prior to transferring. Hill played the past two seasons for the Monarchs, starting in 28 games in 2012-13, while averaging 8.2 points and four rebounds per game. He scored a career high 16 points at Murray State and helped the Monarchs upset CAA regular season leader Northeastern in the season finale with 15 points. Hill was also named CAA All-Academic, and graduated with a degree in sociology. Hill was named the Player of the Year of the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools his senior year at Norfolk Collegiate School.
