Clemson's Victory Over Maryland Seventh Straight for Tigers |
Clemson, SC- Kris Harvey hit two doubles and a homer to lead Clemson to a 9-2 victory over Maryland Saturday in front of 4,351 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers improved to 16-10 overall, 5-0 in the ACC, winning their seventh game in a row. Maryland fell to 13-14 (2-6 in the ACC) with the loss. Tyler Lumsden (2-1) earned the win after giving up just two runs off six hits in 6.1 innings. He struck out five and walked three. Terrapin starter Sean Kane (1-4) had the loss for Maryland. Harvey had three extra-base hits in the contest, two doubles and a homer. Russell Triplett was 3-5 with three infield singles. For Maryland, Anthony Buffone and Will Frazier had two hits apiece.
For the second consecutive game, Harvey was responsible for an early Clemson lead. He hit his second home run in the first inning in as many games. The home run was his fourth of the season. Maryland tied the game at 1-1 in the third after Matt Maropis hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Joe Sargent from third. The Terrapins had two on with one out, but grounded into a double play to end the threat. Clemson came right back in the bottom of the frame, when McCann hit his seventh home run of the season. Clemson had four baserunners in the fourth inning, but scored only one run. Triplett laid down a bunt single to third base to load the bases. Tyler Colvin hit an RBI single to centerfield, giving the Tigers a 3-1 lead after four innings. Harvey led off the fifth with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored after John Ingram extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Ingram slapped a single to left center field to make it 4-1 in favor of Clemson. The Terrapins threatened to get to Lumsden in the sixth inning. With two outs and two on, Triplett saved a run with a diving stop at shortstop. He got the out at second base and the Tigers avoided damage to their lead. Clemson broke the game open in the sixth, scoring five runs off of five hits. Herman Demmink hit an RBI single, while Harvey had two RBIs on a double. Then, Ingram walked in a run and Andy D'Alessio hit a sacrifice fly. The five runs gave Clemson a 9-1 lead. The series finale will take place Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
