Despite personal feelings ND is not a bad hip to be tied to right now.

OMG, and I was thinking when I read that, that being tied to anything that has a Leprechaun attached to it as their schools mascot, was the reason that Kaopectate, and that pink stuff, Pepto-Bismol, was invented.
Through out their history they have mostly had a winning season, but the coots should be able to have a winning season if they were picking the teams they play against every year, and there's nothing magical about that!!!
We can talk all the crap about FSU being being a rogue FB, but with the right coach, they could be be just like us/Clemson, a threat to playing for a NC just like we have been with Dabo. And I would much rather be tied to the hip with FSU than I would the Leprechauns, they are another southern team that can be a really good FB team. And since Dabo took over Clemson, he has proven that Clemson can be a FB program that can go Toe to Toe with any program, and when Dabo is done coaching, I really don't think that the Clemson administration would ever allow our FB program return to what we were before Dabo, and it's bc they have been shown that Clemson can be a top FB program, and being a Top FB has helped Clemson grow, and progress faster than anyone ever believed that a continued top FB at Clemson could have done!!!

Todd Ellis: is shaking in his lil chicken boots right now!

As far as cycling out: the only little thing the chickens could ever say that was stupid as all get out was that they play in a better conference. Toad and the rest of the chickens are likely sitting at home in their little coups hoping we actually cycle up to the Big 10!
"Bless Their Hearts"!
Bahahahaha! Silly Chickens, Trix are for kids! And, even they know Clemson isn't cycling out!

The only way I see Clemson and Notre Dame tied together
Jul 5, 2022, 8:10 AM

at all is this: When Notre Dame commits to a conference other than the ACC, which I would bet all the Benjamins on if they commit to a conference at all, then Clemson will KNOW that the ACC has no hope of getting better from a "branding" standpoint.
Notre Dame has always considered themselves above the crowd, so I am not sure, even now, that they will actually commit to joining a conference, ANY conference, in football. The only thing I am sure about is that it will NOT be the ACC. I would be flabbersmack gobknocked if that were to happen.

If we are tied to ND, then that would likely indicate interest from the Big10. However, other speculation has ND and Stanford as a pairing. I personally think the Clemson connection is more solid, because I don’t understand why the Big10 would invest in a national conference strategy but leave the southeast outside that strategy. If they wait too long, then the SEC could jump them and lock up the last few brands of football value in the region.

If I was the B1G I would want Florida St and Miami for the Florida market with Clemson and UNC to get into the southeast.
Honestly, a pickup of Notre Dame and Clemson would be huge for the B1G.
I just don’t want to be in the B1G. I don’t want to visit Illinois, Indiana, or Minnesota.
So I’m hoping for the SEC. Outside of Columbia, MO and Vanderbilt I would look forward to trying to go to every SEC venue within four to six years. Which sounds so exciting! Vanderbilt’s stadium wouldn’t give me much interest but Nashville is really cool so I might even go there. Plus tickets would probably be cheap.
For me the SEC is more exciting because of the geography. I love Auburn and Georgia stadium’s and would be able to go to a lot more road games. Would love to compete against Oklahoma and Texas. I know to each his own and we all want different things but for me it’s the SEC

I continue to believe that (3) Major Conferences make the most sense. B1G, SEC, ACC If ACC pulls in ND, Penn St and takes TN & FL + maybe SC from the SEC, that will certainly be a conference where there are 3+ Contenders come from each year. And yes take the top 6-8 from each for a playoff system. That way More Schools Win and let's Not Forget these are Still Schools Not the NFL

Why would a team give up 100+ million per year, and go to the ACC for 35 million. Even with a modified new contract that doubled the payout to 70 mil, they would still lose out on 30+ million annually. Simply put: A plan for the ACC to steal teams from the SEC or BIG is unrealistic fantasy.

It still makes me sick that money is driving all decisions in this supposedly amateur sport. Clemson has been in the ACC since its inception and we still play great football. What we need to do is return to the CFB, perhaps win another National Championship, and then let Finebaum talk about squeezing us out. Why does the ACC not take some bold steps of its own. I love having Clemson and ND tied at the hip, but let them be like debutantes going to the powder room--let everyone keep their eye on us, rather than chasing after the bad boys of the SEC and Big10 (little 6).

One more reason to be thankful for Dabo. Had we not experienced the level of success we have I'm doubtful Clemson would have the leverage they're enjoying now. I despise Notre Dame ( yes they're lucky as hell and it pisses me off when we play ). I guess all that "luck of the Irish " crap I heard watching them as a kid rubbed me the wrong way. In any event , Notre Dame is one of if not THE strongest brand in football and I can't imagine a better dancing partner. In all reality an Clemson / ND pairing is actually stronger than the Oklahoma / Texas pairing that the SEC just reeled in. So , it's probably safe to say if this thing isn't over ( and it's not ) then the newfound Clemson / ND alliance is the hottest ticket in town. After the dust settles the tigers and the irish will land in a place where great football is played and gets the respect it deserves rather than languishing around in a basketball first conference. I believe that's one thing we can all agree on. Dabo has worked like a madman to turn Clemson into the power it is today and now we can all reap the fruits of his labor.Clemson will be even stronger as a result and truly the best is yet to come.

Most of us have never liked ND and their primadonna attitude. I find it amusing that Clemson could actually benefit from being linked to them.

We are linked to ND by two concepts.
Jul 10, 2022, 4:18 PM
|
|
One is that if ND buys its way out of the ACC contract Clemson can too. The other is the minds of those who might be considering a two conference playoff. With Clemson and ND in those conference the claim of a national championship would be legitimate.
It's not as if any of this is because the teams have an agreement between them directly. The relationship is abstract.

What defines "Brand" when we are talking schools? If you are talking about football, ND is unquestionably on top. If you are talking about basketball, Carolina and Duke are by far on top. If a multiple choice poll was taken across the country and the question of which ACC school has the most recognizable overall brand was in multiple choice form, I don't think we would like the results.

Just my personal opinion but I believe it's football that is driving this bus. I just asked myself " What did the SEC find appealing about both Texas and Oklahoma ? " Is it their prowess on the basketball court or their play on the gridiron ? Football is king , not only at Clemson but most colleges and universities.

Like you I'm skeptical and surprised ND would be linked closely to Clemson in terms of conference expansions. It only makes sense in terms of football branding. In those terms, the B1G (as reported by Pate last week) communicating with Clemson could make sense. Either the B1G (more likely) or SEC announcing the entry of both Notre Dame and Clemson would be another bomb drop conference statement for college football. ND/Stanford or ND/Oregon sounds more likely -- unless ND/Clemson is step 1 and Stanford/Oregon with UNC/UVA/MIA or FSU entry (a big move within SE) is step 2. Very interesting.

All this speculation of packaging teams . No disrespect but FSU & Miami are not at the top of FB. ND is actually doing alot better than both programs. So being rumored joined at the hip. Not a bad time to be joined to them . They (ND ) sitting plain face at the poker table. They have the cards (NBC, no conference). If they move 1 or 2 conferences may dissolve. Or not. The Tigers and ND are the only Elite FB programs left. It will be an interesting summer and fall. GO TIGERS! ALL IN !

I think the key for Clemson regarding ND is this… Neff probably understands that if ND doesn’t join the ACC (which seems very unlikely at this point), then Clemson needs to bolt. I think that’s probably what makes sense as far as being tied to ND, more so than a package deal, although I’m sure that would be a duo considered as well and also possibly thrown in the mix if our AD’s are talking.

I always enjoy reading David Hood’s take on things. He’s honest with his opinions, and he gets it right almost always. “Fair, balanced and unafraid” seems to come to mind when I recall his reporting. Thanks, D. Hood!
