Why Kelly Bryant will be the starter next season...
Jul 17, 2017, 5:35 PM
|
|
|
Although Kelly Bryant is not a heralded recruit, when compared with Hunter/Cooper/Israel, he has the physical gifts. K. Bryant provides a component to the run game that would be feared by opposing defenses (see GIF attached of run versus Miami in 2015). In combination with the talent at WR (D. Cain & co.), this could lead to huge plays down field without the need of K. Bryant being a precision passer. However, Bryant at the HS level was able to throw for over 3,500 yards and 41 TDs his senior season. If he can make the short to intermediate throws in the HUHN offense, he might have some easy throws downfield because of his run threat capabilities. Also, who doesn't want to see him and Feaster in the backfield together? Talk about a duo with speed! Although Bryant did not throw too many passes last season, he did put some nice touch on his TD pass to T. Thompson (see GIF attached).
I'd like to know everyone else's thoughts on this too!

Because of Dabo's "seniority rule".

Bryant automatically gets the start because he's paid his dues and has seniority. Dabo is loyal to his QBs that way, and will start Bryant even if he believes another, less experienced, less senior QB gives us a better chance to win.

will get the job because he is the best QB we have.He is also a leader. You are correct in saying he has great running ability but he can throw the ball too.We don't want a running back at QB but have one that can run if need. Don't cut KB short because he will do the job.

How do you know he can pass at a collegiate level? I'm not saying he can't, but none of us know. We have never seen him do it.

of 5 QB's at this point. Kelly definitely strikes fear as a runner. Tucker Isreal seems to have a knack for "throwing receivers open" and looks in command and comfortable on the field. Johnson seems to have all around ability/talent. That only covers 3 of the variables in this equation. There are two more talented players. It sure is nice to have so many high level players at this position and we certainly cannot anoint any one of the 5 as the starter.

Disaster for the this offense. The strength of the offense is the wide receivers. Bryant has to be able to execute the Watson offense.

Except the Watson offense was best when he was running the ball. It opened the passing lanes even more. Look back at 2015 and 2016, the offense was humming when the QB was runnin.
That being said we utilize the underneath passing game combined with the QB run better than most in the game. That is where KB should excel, however, he hasn't been able to in the limited time he's been in. Though, he has been in during garbage time when we weren't really worrying about throwing the ball anyways.

The difference is in the mindset. Watson was pass first but ran when he had to. The opposite is true of Bryant. He is run first pass second. Those habits have to change.

Dang man give it a rest. Everyone gets that you think he's a pathetic chicken troll. You say it all the time. We get it. Why do you care so much what people post on here when they have a low pulse? If someone with a 100% pulse writes that, you wouldn't say a word. I'm not saying I agree with what he says, but leave the man alone. He gets it, and so does everyone else, you don't like him.

I don't want to see a repeat of the 2014 Georgia game. If KB can't cut it, the question becomes Johnson or Cooper.

on the road, are the "big three" litmus indicators that must converge, and the real QB will emerge at that point.
As was the case with Deshaun, when he was officially introduced for the world (FSU game).

He was a 4* by most services, and would be a huge get for 95% of D1 schools. He's had years with our coaches to develop on top of that. Is he the best thrower out there? No. Neither is Lamar Jackson, and he did okay last year. Let's all stop pretending that KB is garbage and just sit back and enjoy being the defending national champions.

We have the luxury of opening with Kent State where we ...
Jul 18, 2017, 10:44 AM

... we should be able to actually see our QBs perform against a real opponent behind the #1 OL for a series or two. Choosing the wrong guy to start against Kent State should not have the negative consequences of choosing the wrong guy to start on the road against Georgia like we did with Cole Stoudt a couple of years ago.
Having this home game to sort things out is a real benefit for our coaches given the QB situation.

I'm pretty sure that our first team D vs first team O will find the starter better than playing against Kent St
I know it will be nice to see another team and not know their tendencies, some of their calls, etc, but the way the game prep is for Clemson we know all of that already anyway. But our defense should tell the coaches way more than Kent St D. And hopefully it will be the player that benefits the entire offense and lifts everyone to another level and makes every players job easier

All of the QBs have the tools to do the job but we need one who can lead and execute the offense. That doesn't always correspond with arm and/or running talent. DW4 had the whole package - talent and leadership. Can any of these guys lead? The answer to that question is the answer to our season.

His arm makes me shutter going from Watson to this if his spring game has anything to do with how hit and miss he will be. Like Boyd he could be great but was so hit and miss you never knew what QB you'd get

Doesn't matter he airmailed screen passes. Which is about the meat of our offense so it is a worry. Prior to the spring game his best plays have all been runs. I will keep worrying until I see success in a game I hope he does great.

Bryant may surprise every body. Up to this point his passing skills have been very average. That was before the injury.
