Grady Jarrett got it down and right on the money. Control the guards and center and.that forces Tech into plan B. That could lead to sacks and TFL. Could also lead to QB having to throw into heavy coverage and getting picked, or TFL and fumble. GO TIGERS !!

PJ's GT's win % is halved when opponent has extra prep time
Nov 14, 2014, 11:43 AM

The data indicates that PJ's rarely-seen option offense is tough to prepare for in 1 week, but easier (not easy) to defeat, when the opponent is given more time to prepare. Hopefully our D has prepped well. FYI stats follow:
PJ's GT is: 8-17 (.320) against FBS teams that had more than 7 days to prepare for the option but, 30-14 (.682) vs FBS that only had 7 days to prepare. That’s a HUGE discrepancy in winning percentage.
By comparison, from 2003-2007 GT was: 11-12 (0.478) vs FBS teams that had more than 1 week to prepare. 32-25 (0.552) vs. FBS teams that only had 1 week to prepare. Very little difference in winning percentage.
PJ's GT is 1-5 (.167) in bowl games- when BOTH teams have a month to prepare.
Details follow: 2008: 1-2. Beat UGA. Lost to UNC. Spanked by LSU in bowl. 2009: 0-2. Lost to Miami & Iowa in bowl (GT's 2 lowest yardage totals of the season.) 2010: 1-4. Beat suspension-decimated UNC. Lost to NCSU, VT, UGA, Air Force in bowl. 2011: 1-2. Beat NCSU (2 extra days). Lost to UVA (2 wks. 296 yds lowest of season). Lost to VT (12 days). Lost to Utah (in bowl). 2012: 3-3. Lost to VT in opener. Lost to MTSU (2weeks), Beat UNC (who said that they didn’t use the extra time to prepare for GT) & Duke. Lost to UGA (who played option-team, Ga Southern the prior week). Beat USC (in bowl). 2013: 1-3. Beat UNC (2 weeks). Lost to BYU (1 extra day). Lost to Clemson (5 extra days). Lost to Ole Miss (in bowl with 2nd worse yardage of the season). 2014: 1-1. TBD Lost to Duke (2 weeks). Beat Pitt (2 extra days). Clemson TBD (2 extra days).
It is worth noting that in 2010 in the 2nd game, Kansas (who feasted on a cupcake in week 1) beat GT after reportedly spending the last few weeks of the summer preparing for the option. And in 2008, lowly (5-7) Wake took (11-3*) GT into OT just 2 weeks after facing Navy's option attack. Prep time matters, a LOT.
Details for 2004-2007: 2003: Beat Wake, UMD, Tulsa in a bowl. Lost to BYU (opener), UVA (9 days), 2004: Beat UMD, Duke, UConn, Syr. Lost to Miami, VT, UGA. 2005: Beat Aub, UNC. Lost to NCSU, Utah. 2006: Beat UMD. Lost to ND, Clem, UGA, WVU. 2007: Beat ND. Lost to Fresno.
Here’s an article where the Iowa players & coach say that it helps to have extra time to prepare for the option. http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/8570/georgia-tech-offense-stuffed-by-iowa “I can’t image preparing for them [GT] in a week,” [Iowa] linebacker Pat Angerer said.
“Having that [bowl prep] time was extremely big,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. “I can’t imagine preparing for them in a week.”

I wish we had a bye week before GT revery yr

Their offense is just to much to prepare for in one week. Very easy to get out of position when you don't have enough time to practice against it. You don't need much talent to run the offense GT has because they thrive on the defenders being out of position. That's how they get there yards and points
