It does seem crazy that the WR didn't even attempt to put a move on Edmonds.
I know UL claimed later that the first down marker was too far outside of the field of play to see, but even if there were not a marker in the stadium why wouldn't the guy be trying to score a touchdown? A left foot stick in the ground and move to the inside almost assuredly gets him in the endzone. It is like he ran out of bounds on purpose.
That play really is a head-scratcher the more you look at it.

I think there is an argument to be made both ways.
Either way, don't you expect the guy to fight and dive forward regardless of choosing inside or outside?

The contain by Edmonds was textbook, but yes the receiver should have known:
1) the line to gain
2) he wasn't gonna make it outside
3) no other option than to make an attempt to juke inside as it's game over otherwise
