Why, this would imply that we don't really know, and that in fact, he may still be playing QB at Clemson this fall.
I'm starting to think T-Net is unreliable.

Do not blame Parker. I would take the deal if I really wanted to play baseball. Come back and play football and you take a chance of blowing everything with one blind side hit. i am from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and Clemson has a proven winner in Tajh Boyd. Given a chance he will be a winner because he is a winner. GO TIGERS!!!

This is just negotiation posturing. KP has no NFL future.

Parker is gone. As I've posted before, the Parkers and their attorney are just posturing to get more money from the Rockies. Surely the Parkers know that Kyle has a miniscule chance for a career in the NFL and practically no chance to make it the NFL unless he plays for 2-3 more football seasons. Therefore it makes no sense for him to return to Clemson for football.
Sure, it might be fun to be QB for another season, but how much is that fun worth? $50k? $100k? Do you think KP would pay $100k to be QB for one more year? I doubt it. Do you think the Rockies would pay him $100k to keep him from being QB one one more year and to focus on bringing the Rockies a quicker return on their investment of a 1st round pick? Probably. But according to this article, Parker would be willing to accept between $300k to $1.5M less to play football for one more season. (I.e. Roughly $25k - $100k per football game.) That's laughably absurd.
As I've said before, KP has almost no chance of an NFL career because of his 6'0" height. In the last 4 years, and 50 QBs drafted, only 4 QBs under 6’2” have been drafted and all were superstars: 1) 6’1” senior Colt McCoy-- the all-time winningest college QB-- 3rd round. 2) The speedy 5’ 11” senior Armanti Edwards, who is projected to play as a WR & KR, not as a QB—3rd round. 3) 6’ senior Pat White who is projected to play WR & situational wildcat running QB (skills that Parker doesn't possess)-- 2nd round. 4) 6’ Heisman winner, senior Troy Smith-- 5th round.
So of the 50 sub 6'2" QBs drafted over the last 4 years, only two were actually drafted to play QB. One was a Heisman winner who only went in the 5th round, and the other was a Heisman finalist and all-time winningest college QB. Both were seniors. And both were on high-profile teams that played for national championships. So in order for Parker to get drafted by the NFL, he'd probably have to turn in a Heisman-esque peformance on a team that is a high profile national championship contender. But Clemson doesn't have any truly proven wide receivers, and doesn't make most pre-season Top 25 lists. And even if all of those miracles occurred, the NFL would have to select him as a redshirt sophomore? Highly, highly, highly, highly, highly unlikely.
Sure, occasionally a 6' Drew Brees, makes it, but more often there are guys like 6'1" Chase Daniel who (despite a brilliant college career) go undrafted and end up on a practice squad for $91k/yr. I don't see the Parkers taking that risk when they have a bird in hand.

What I can prove is that he worked outside college football as either a real estate or insurance agent (LOL).
And I can prove he's been a college talent recruiter.
And I can prove he been a position coach in college.
And I can prove that he's been a head coach in college.
And not prove or disprove his ability to just NFL QB talent, which seems to be at the crux of the post I responded to.

There are no numbers that suggest Kyle Parker is even as good as Colt McCoy as a freshman, much less Colt mcCoy as a senior.
Even then, mcCoy was drafted in the THIRD ROUND. I don't know the facts about NFL draft rounds verses MLB rounds, but I'm thinking the bonus money for a MLB first round pick is better than an NFL 3rd rounder.

Have you even looked at their numbers?
Jul 20, 2010, 3:08 PM

1) that wasn't a State Paper writer that wrote the article. Post and Courier. 2) The writer picks and chooses the numbers he wants to use. Parker's passing yards were comparable to McCoy's. but his percentage was far less. And with probably just as many offensive targets as McCoy. mCCoy threw for 9 more TDs.. (almost 50% more than Parker) and 5 fewer INTs.
And since when did sports writers suddenly become the experts on Tnet?
Find me a real NFL talent scout that is harping on the NFL prospects of Kyle Parker at QB.

Dabo takes liberties with the truth when $Ms are on the line
Jul 20, 2010, 3:10 PM
[ in reply to That's not what Dabo says. I trust Dabo.*** ] |
|
Dabo has a HUGE conflict of interest here so you can't trust his biased opinion. Clemson is far more likely to do well with KP at QB, and consequently, Dabo is far more likely to attain his bonuses and leverage millions of dollars more on his next contract if KP stays.
In the past, Dabo has proven that he takes liberties with the truth when his career is on the line. For example, early last season (when Clemson's offense was stinking it up) Dabo said that he was wasn't overriding Napier's play calls. But later we found out that Dabo was routinely overriding Napier-- which resulted in a big flap (that fortunately was resolved after the post-UMD bye-week).
Dabo is no different than other coaches who have multimillion dollar conflicts of interest. Pete Carroll told Mark Sanchez that it was foolish for Sanchez to enter the draft after his junior year. But Sanchez did so anyway and was a 1st round (5th overall) pick. Sanchez went on to start for the Jets as a rookie. (In his first NFL game he threw his first NFL TD to former Tiger Chansi Stuckey.) Sanchez was the first rookie ever to win his first three NFL games. Sanchez made the right decision. Carroll was full of baloney. USC had to start freshman QB, Matt Barkley, and USC had its worst season since 2000.

Maybe. Maybe not. CJ was projected for 1st round in 2009.
Jul 20, 2010, 4:20 PM
|
|
If CJ left after his junior year, CJ would have been making millions of dollars one year sooner-- and likely one year longer in a sport where RBs have a limited number of years to play. I think maybe financially, it worked out better for CJ to stay, but we'll never know. We know for a fact that financially it worked out better for Dabo, who told a guy with a 1st round projection to forego the NFL draft!!!

After the draft he said " I just want to sign by the end of Summer I (which ends June 24th) or the beginning of Summer II (June 28th) just to be fair to Coach Swinney and the guys on the football team."
Later we hear from his mother that the Rockies want to finalize the deal on July 20th.
Now we're reading that, well shucks, it might not be today after all.
Come on guys. Does anyone actually know what's going on?
