Thought I'd share this...

Nov 8, 2012, 4:21 PM

This morning, before he went to school, I finally got to see my 6 year old son stand, unassisted, on his own two feet. I had seen a picture, and had heard about it from his school, but had never seen it with my own eyes until today. No matter what my thoughts about the rest of the week were, today was a great day.

And to the neurologist that told us he might never stand or walk by himself, never discount the efforts of wonderful special education teachers.

although I feel certain the credit you give to the special ed teachers is more than deserving, pat yourself on the back as well. Both you, your family and your son get just as much credit at they do.

well done...

Might be too personal but what's his story?***

He was born with a condition that I can't remember the name of. Basically, there is a spot on his brain where the normal folds and grooves are too tightly packed. It happens to be in the part of his brain that controls motor skills, speech, etc...

In a nutshell, his mental and physical development are severely delayed.

He has seen a pediatric neurologist, geneticist, developmental pediatrician, etc... and there is no real diagnosis, other than the brain MRI that showed the issue above. He is suspected to have autism as well, but they haven't diagnosed it.

The good news is that he is in otherwise good health. All his organs work fine as far as we know.

I'm figuring out who you are by process of elimination.

Nov 8, 2012, 4:44 PM

I can say with relative certainty that you are NOT Marcus Lattimore's father.

Too soon? Don't care. But big, big congrats on your boy. Can't imagine how amazing that is for you.

...I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent.

Seeing your post made me log in for the first time in like a year.

I want to say congrats, and isn't it amazing? Never lose hope, it can be unbelievable hard. I think it shows the true character of a family when they can lift up their children, especially when they have special needs.

I know exactly how you feel. My son is 5 with a genetic disorder (he is the only one in the world with a documented case of this specific disorder). We were told he may never walk unassisted or talk. He is walking unassisted and even starting to run now. He is just starting to say a few words. I cried the first time I heard him say "dada" a few months ago. Ever day he progresses with the help of family, therapists, teachers and doctors.

I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.
