Very good point 74 Tiger. The coach from Middle Tennessee State had never faced an option offense like Georgia Tech's and I thought he had his guys ready to play. I liked the fact that the defensive players for MTS refused to be cut to the ground and their defensive linemen pursued down the line eliminating most of their running lanes.

it's a work in progress and rather folks want to accept that or not, it is what it is. Those who think well if Morris can do that to the offense in one year why can't Vannables do that on the other side, just don't know football. On offense one player can take an offense to another level. I would love for someone to show me a AE, Boyd, Nuk and Watkins on the defensive side of the ball? Defense you have to have 4 or 5 great players to have a great defense. Trust me Vennables will take Clemson's defense to another level and especially when the 2013 class get here. You saw last week a big improvement on the DL and LB's. By the end of the year, these young guys will be much improved. You can't lose your 4 best players on defense to the NFL and expect to just plug in young guys and just be better. Vennables is a great defensive coord and was in the top 25 in a conference that is loaded with offensive fire power. But he isn't a magician

GT still had 450 yds of offense, so it isn't

like MTSU shut them down. Their defense is their problem. They had well over 400 on Miami too. You're never gonna shut down GT on offense as they are top 3 in rushing just about every year. You just have to not allow them to do what they did ion the ACC title in 2009 and never punt. Key is stopping them on first down and making them have 3rd and 7 or more

I like to believe the team and staff has put a lot of emphasis on stopping the option this year. Time to cash in on the hard work!!

Not taking anything away from who they played last week but I'm sure there is enough on the video to provide some good ideas,,,49---28 is sort of a spanking

I know it is risky, but BV is 100% correct on seeing it in practice before the real deal on Saturday.

And the fact that everything Venables said that we need to do well in this game, is just what we've been awful at this year, doesn't help at all.

It probably means we didn't get the ball very much on offense. Will not be good.

First of all, these 5 things need to happen for our defense.
Oct 2, 2012, 9:34 PM
|
|
1) Stop the Dive inside. They'll run it until we stop it and it's designed to get 3 yds pc. 2) Hit the QB every time he touches the ball 3) Rip the QB's head off every time he touches the ball 4) Flatten the QB every time he touches the ball 5) Repeat 1-4, even if you get a penalty flag.
When the QB drops back to pass, hit him. If he hesitates, hit him.
We can do this we win the game. Period.

Those are indeed the best steps to stop the triple option offense. I'll make one addition. The DE has got to penetrate and close off the outside. Get into the backfield and contain. Give the rest of the team the chance to make some tackles.
HIT THE QB.
