Non-alum/alum

My grandfather (Dad's dad) never graduated from Clemson. My dad did. My cousin did. I will in a year, and so will my sister in '07. This is all because of my grandfather. He was just a part of Clemson as any alumni.

He was in IPTAY for 30 years. Had season tickets and a parking pass for at least 20 years that we still enjoy today. He saw countless games and bowls, including the '82 National Championship.

When my dad graduated in 1978, the both of them cried like babies in the lobby of the old Holiday Inn. It was almost as if they had both just graduated. He beamed with pride when I showed him my class ring.

He died last May at the age of 80.
The organist at the funeral played Tiger Rag as I carried his casket with the rest of his grandchildren.

President Barker wrote my dad a personal letter expressing his sympathy for our loss AND Clemson's loss. He was a part of the Clemson family.

He never graduated from Clemson.
He lived Clemson.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Same was true of my father not going to Clemson. Smiling on his death bed when I told him we beat FSU. He was thrilled at my graduating and now my daughter and son. He loved Clemson musch more than many of those who attended, and oh yes, his dislike for the coots was legendary.

even graduated from college, but became tigers when they moved to the clemson area in 1971. they couldn't afford to join iptay because they supported seven of their ten childern through clemson. they don't get to many games anymore as they are 78 and 80, but they watch every football, basketball, and baseball game that is on tv. and if the game is not on tv they listen to the radio broadcast will they babysit the numerous grandchildern who can't go to the games!

i owe that experience to my Dad(and Mom) who were and still are devoted Clemson fans but NOT graduates. He started taking me to games in '76-77 watching Steve Fuller and company, tailgating before games and sitting on the hill. I am the only Clemson alum in my immediate family(2 Coots and a C of C graduate also)but me and my folks bleed orange. Thanks to my Dad for shelling out the bucks so i could get that piece of paper and keep me on track to bleed Clemson orange forever.
