The pain cannot be described upon receiving the phone call that your daughter's soon-to-be husband (in my case four years ago) or recently wedded husband (in the case of Terry Bradshaw this weekend) has just been killed in a car crash. You try to figure out a way to transfer her pain, in part or whole, to yourself. But you soon come to realize that it cannot be done.
I must tell you that my daughter did weather that storm and is now married and doing well. But the pain Terry, his daughter, and all the family members involved are suffering today is unspeakable. Such events in our lives provide calibration as to what is truly important.
