Welcome to the ACC? Naw, welcome to Clemson

In the middle of all the joyous posts last night, one caught my eye:

"Hey Miami! Welcome to the ACC!"

I appreciate the enthusiasm, and the assessment that perhaps Miami's road to all those titles was a little smoother than they'd like to admit. But I'd prefer to think of last night as "Hey, Miami! Welcome to Clemson!"

Why? Two reasons.

1. I'd rather drink a cup of warm cow spit than say get in the old, tired "our conference is better than your conference" one-upmanship. I also don't want to have to look to UNC for validation of our football program.

2. The win last night was Clemson's. Not the ACC's, not the refs (who, by the way, did a credible job) not a hangover effect from the Tar Heels.

The Heels simply were the last team to get the ball...in their place. It was a stunning win for them, and one they should be eternally proud of. Lord knows their folks were up this way all week.

But I don't think they want to share that win with us. And I don't particualrly want to share ours with them.

This win was Clemson's. The Tigers took a murderous opening salvo from a rightly cheesed-off Hurricane team and endured. This team looked a 17-3 oblivion in the face, on the road, and scraped back.

Nobody helped Clemson but Clemson. And when they place that new tombstone in the yard, it's not going to say "ACC 24, Miami 17."

It's going to say "Clemson."

Well done, Tigers!
