Wht he ######## is gone after this year
Jun 14, 2012, 3:00 PM
|
|
I have never made this prediction in previous years, but feel about 90% sure this is his last year, and he has known it for a while.
1. Lattimore is going pro after this season 2. He has landed one QB since 2010, Dylan Thompson. This is one position under Spurrier where he would need to look a kid in the eye and say I will be your head coach for 4 years. This is not happened in the last few recruiting cycles. 3. The Bulk of his coaching staff took off, and it turns the sanctions where not that bad from the NCAA. Maybe they knew they better get gone, while the getting was good. 4 With 7 wins, he becomes their all time winningst ocach. How they wer able to convince the NCAA to allow him to keep those wins when several known ineligible players suited up is beyond me, but none the less good riddance. This is a record that I doubt will ever be broken. 5. Spurrier knows that there is no way he will ever win it all in any time soon with like of Saban and Les Miles and that his lone division title was likely the best the program will ever see.
Congrats ########, on your 7th place rings, lone division title in the weakest SEC EAST of all time, and for doing what had not been done since Nixon was in Office, beat Clemson 3x in a row. You proved the skeptics wrong and road a donkey to the finish line in a horse race. You can leave knowing that all your record will stand, and that you will be considered the most successful coach in SCU history averaging 8 wins a season.

Very good points and I must say I agree with all of them. Also GOOD RIDDANCE as posted above. I don't believe there is a coach I have detested more in my 30+ years of watching college football.

But Spurrier promised Connor Mitch that if he would commit to us, he would not retire before Mitch graduates. He committed. He'll probably redshirt next year, 2013, so it looks like about 2018 may be the first chance for y'alls prayers to come true. LOL And BTW, he's signed at least one QB every year. Brendon Nosevitch and Tanner McEvoy plus Mitch are the last 3 year's signees.

Heard it on Kornblutt's show, which after the interview Phil said it made sense as it would be Lattimore's last year assuming he stayed 4 years.

Yet, then afterwards he signed a contract extension for another 4 years. Research Bear Bryant's record for SEC wins.

I definitely gotta disagree with ya there. I absolutely hate to admit it and want it to change asap, but their program is definitely on the rise. As to your points,
1. Lattimore will likely go pro (but only if he stays healthy, his injury can be tricky to come back to 100% from) 2. They just recruited Connor Mitch. He's unproven, could be a bust, or could be their next star. 3. with a program on the rise, they'll probably recruit some good replacement staff (but hopefully not) 4. being the all-time winningest coach at south carolina is like being the senior staff member at the night shift for subway. not gonna be the accomplishment he hangs his hat on. 5. of course there's no way that Spurrier will win it all anytime soon. but i doubt he knows that.
and honestly, i'd rather him stay now. we don't want him to leave while the program is at its peak because the head coaching spot becomes a much more attractive job for the next great coaches. i'd rather him stay on a few years and the program go back into decline before there's a replacement.

LOL.
Brought in 4 star Mike Davis at RB in the past recruiting cycle. Bringing in a QB this Fall, who was a Parade All-American and recently got a commitment from a 4 star QB who turned down Alabama, LSU. Auburn, Tennessee and many more. He wants to break Bear Bryants records of most SEC wins. By the way, talking about winning a weak division: nothing has ever been weaker than the Atlantic Divisions in 2009 and 2011. And last year was the first time that the ACC had no team finish in the final AP Top 20 poll in over 20 years.

I was worried about USC becoming bored with Clemson after their dominance over the last 3 years, but ole Dabo put those thoughts to bed with his childish untrue remarks attributed to Spurrier 6 months ago..thanks for pi$$ing Spurrier off. Keep it up Dabo!

He has recently made several remarks about how he has never felt better a bout coaching and never been more comfortable. He is still only 67 and in much better physical shape after the knee surgery, so I don't think health will be an issue.
Opinions of him aside, Spurrier has a pretty good deal going at USC. He is making something like 3 million a year, the entire fanbase loves him, recruiting is very solid, and to be honest our expectations are fairly low. If he can win 8 games a year and beat Clemson he will continue to be well liked.
I don't think he leaves after 2012. He will still have Clowney, Shaw, and a slew of others in 2013. I think he stays at least until the end of that seasons.

You can read into what you want, truth is Spurrier probably does not know when he is retiring. But in listening to him last summer, I think he felt real good about his chances of winning a NC by then. That is his motivation, it may be next year who knows, but don't fool yourself to think his promise to Mitch Connor means anything. Spurrier wants to win and cares little about most of his players.

Two things have to happen for SS to leave SCU.
1: He gets offered more money some where else.
2: He wins the SEC.
So he will die at SCU.
