This black american must confess a racist ancestory..

The white blood in me is French Huguenot. Found out this week while home in Charleston that our French Huguenot ancestors were officers in the confederate army and staunch supporters of the John C. Calhoun foundation and his ideals. They were responsible for helping raise money to put the JC Calhoun statue on a the high pedestal in Charleston and also for moving the remains of John C. Calhoun so that his grave was not desecrated by the Union soldiers. Apparently, they loved some black women somewhere along the way... but found out they detested the idea of integration, equality for blacks and the end of slavery... WOW!!! What a legacy I have.. right?

Well, they were wrong for thinking and acting that way.. and though I was not there and didn't actually do it or think it myself... I must confess that those French Huguenot ancestors of mine who perpetuated white supremacy in my home town...were racist and they were wrong and I am glad that the statue that my ancestors were in large part responsible for is gone as it represented oppression to one half of my lineage.

You can’t beat yourself up for your ancestry. We have a thing called white guilt. You got the same guilt..

Dwelling on the mistakes of people you have no control over is a waste of energy. They also lived in a world rampant with slavery, it was the “social norm”

We learned. We got better and we’ve come a long way. I’m always positive about things.. I’ll be positive about this too. The racism is dying off with every new generation. Have faith in humanity.

is something that good people couldn't and didn't overlook. It doesn't take a modern mind to know that owning people is wrong. That's a ######## excuse. If you ever owned people, you are a POS.

You are not the only one whose been shocked by their ancestry. I had great grandfather....or...maybe he was a great-great grandfather....but we are not sure where he came in at because the trail has gone cold. All we know is that he was an Italian...and possibly a doctor of sorts. Thats all we know.

There are lots of untold family history that would absolutely shock people by the thousands. Just keep pushing forward to be in many ways better than the ones before us and steer just that towards the future generations.

You know there were wealthy black Americans that owned slaves. Most of them, almost all of them, were from slave heritage that inherited land and money. So where do we point fingers. Why are statues of generals who fought to free slaves being torn down? Where does it end?

Only 12-15% of the black Americans have ties to US Slavery. Just because a person is black don't mean they didn't come to America on their own free will.

Just because you question your heritage doesn't mean that your French ancestors didnt do great things, white or black. But to tear America apart, a country where you can leave asap if you don't like it, tear down iconic symbols that represents the very point of contention???

It proves that this is no longer a race fight!! Its a fight to break down America, fight to destroy what it was founded on. It isn't blacks against the rest, it's socialists thinking that 10mouths speaking louder than 1000 ppl is worth more. Its the kneejerk reactions that shows 1 voice means more than a million opinions!!

Nobody is more entitled to severe injustice rights than the Native American Indian. But don't tell me because you have black heritage that you feel consumed by grief or whatever it is you tried to say.

Black injustice happens, but i guarantee Hispanic, Muslim, white, Indian, Jewish, etc, injustice happens!

I hope you also seek forgiveness for your black ancestors that sold your ancestors into slavery. Next, you need to BEG Tigernet forgiveness for being a racist and wasting our time with your nonsense.

Why are you stuck in thinking about the past
it"s like yesterday it's gone
nothing said or done today will change or
have an impact on the past what we do today or tomorrow
will only make ALL our lives better

In fact if you keep being so obsessed with the past
you will not be able to have the future you want

I'm sure most of our family's have done or said things
in the past none of us would do today

Do you want to be thought of or talked about things
members of your family have done or will do tomorrow

Yes we all have done or did not do something that if we
had been able to look forward to today we might have done
or not done it the same way

Do what you can do to make tomorrow better for you
Because not a "D" thing you can say or do to change
what might or might not have happened yesterday
much less in the 244 years of history in the USA

Just my $0.25 worth

The best thing you can do since your ancestors were racists, is commit suicide. End that racist bloodline and help save the planet at the same time.

6. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

slaves. My great grandfather was a confederate soldier who was taken prisoner, along with his 2 brothers, by the Union army in Petersburg and held as a POW in NY State for 10 months until the end of the war. Another ancestor (great great uncle, I believe) left a young slave boy to his oldest son in his will. I'm sure all of my ancestors supported the confederacy. As wrong as they were, none of that has anything to do with me, with my life or the person that I am. They were very wrong, in my opinion, but they were products of their environment just like we all are, and I'm confident that none of them would think that way were they living today.
