Test Scores are the only way to judge prospective college students

GPA is highly contingent on the ease of the High School and is impossible to compare across schools. Extracurriculars are similarly useless and in reality only indicate relative socioeconomic advantage. The SAT and the ACT are the great equalizer and allow colleges to identify intelligence better than any tool we have. It's not perfect but it's the best we have so I support my Alma Mater using it as the definitive factor for admissions. Legacy and soft factors should, in my opinion, play no role.

It probably is a tiebreaker. But it doesn't put a 1250 SAT score in front of a 1260.

Test scores should have little weight, because you can raise a score significantly by taking the right prep class. It’s why the GRE means nothing for a lot of grad schools.
Many colleges don’t require the SAT or ACT at all.

You can raise test scores with practice and prep classes. Yet the score is more predictive of college success than any other factor. How do you propose they admit students if they aren't trying to predict college success?

So what factor would you use?
Would you try to compare captain of the field hockey team vs. member of the H.S. marching band? Or would you compare a 3.9 GPA at random school A (with a random set of classes within that school) vs. a 3.8 GPA at random school B?
As you can see, any determinant other than test scores is akin to picking candidates out of a hat.
