Motion Offense

Feb 21, 2018, 7:56 PM

Someone please educate me on this. Is this the way a motion offense is supposed to look? Several passes around the perimeter and then a 3pt shot? Asking for a friend.

Completely opposite of motion offense

Feb 21, 2018, 8:05 PM

Fundamentally, the motion offense is to pass & screen away from the ball and let someone else cut through the paint hoping to draw a defender out of the middle to let a post player flash to the high post and either look to the low post, pass to a cutter from the wing or reverse the ball to the weak side for a shooter. Guards should look to posts for an entry pass or wait on a ball screen to run pick/roll.

Again, completely OPPOSITE of what the Tigers run with their '3 man weave keep away & jack it up' that Brownell seems to favor.

I see them set several screens, hell, Thomas gets called for a moving one at least once a game it seems.

Not to mention you described the most basic, high school version, of a motion offense.

A motion O is designed to make picks and flash backdoor for easy layups.
It usually works one time then you go back into a zone

LOL these are players that were super stars in high school .
They just forget how to dribble, I don’t think so.

h3II no it's not supposed to look like that. Motion offense is an offense. There are movements and looks, depending on what the defense gives you. What Brad runs is ridiculous.

No, wasn't good all year. we are where we are based on three point shots. When we hit them ( DeVoe ) we win, when we don't, we don't win. I've watched for an offense all year, never have seen one.

Re: Motion Offense

Feb 21, 2018, 8:41 PM [ in reply to Re: Motion Offense ]

We average 74.5 points per game, which is decent for an offense, especially after losing your team leader who was averaging double figures, and playing the last two games without your PG (the player that makes the offense run).

Not to mention several players have hit 3's all year, pretty sure Reed is up in the mid 50's.

You don't get to where we are solely on 3 point shots, that's ridiculous, or either this is the best shooting team in history.

If you have coached BB, then you understand you need to tailor the offense for the players. In HS, you get what you get. In College, you recruit. So you can get the players you like, to do the things you like. Purnell liked fast breaks, up and down the court. He had players for that.

Re: Motion Offense

Feb 21, 2018, 8:32 PM

What you are seeing is the equivalent of our natty offense minus deshaun and renfro. Insert Cole stoudt and Will Swinney. No disrespect to those guys but we are not deep enough to win with the injuries we have. That's not a Brownell issue that's just really bad luck. We have just got to get Mitchell back. Its,gonna be really ugly until we,do. If Devon stays cold we may only win 1 more game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

without the motion.

The motion is on the bench.
