(9)Auburn- 21 (6)Washington- 16. Probably the most anticipated game of Week 1, both teams considered Playoff contenders. Auburn won and vaulted up near the Top 5, then finished 8-5. Washington finished 9-3.
Maryland- 34 (23)Texas- 29. Texas was not back. Then they beat OU and were. Then they lost 2 games and weren't. Then they beat UGA and now are.
Duke- 34 Army- 14. Army, the nation's best triple-option team, gained 168 rushing yards. Then went on to win 10 of its next 11 games (the lone loss in OT in Norman against Oklahoma 28–21) including a 70-14 bowl win over Houston. Go Figure.
(20)Virginia Tech- 24 (19)Florida State- 3. Coming off a nice Freshman year, QB Josh Jackson threw for 200+ Yards and 2 TDs, while VT's Defense only gave up 3 Points and forced 5 Turnovers on the road. Virginia Tech immediately became the trendy dark-horse team and shot all the way up to #12 ... where it promptly came burning to the ground on an in-state road trip to Norfolk that ended in a 49–35 loss to previously winless Old Dominion and a season-ending injury to Jackson, who transferred to Maryland this offseason .
(12)Notre Dame- 24 (14)Michigan-17. Michigan's Defense is overrated, their Offense is predictable, and they can't win the big game. Wait, that's not an overreaction, its true.
