I may show my ignorance here, but...

Mar 17, 2018, 10:27 PM

We’re in the Southwest bracket playing in San Diego.

I’m watching UF and TTU in the East regional playing in Dallas.

What gives? Does someone with the tourney committee deserve to be fired or is it always this way??

It's always been like that. I think they try to give the higher seeds the closer (to them) sites, and often-times they are from the same region so the rest get dumped wherever there's room to make the schedules work out. It would make more sense if they changed the name from "whatever regional" to something not geography-based.

No, it wasn't always like that. Back in the 70s & 80s, the

regionals were called, East, Mideast, Midwest & West, and were pretty much geographically correct!

The name of the region

Mar 17, 2018, 10:34 PM

Is only based on the sweet 16/elite 8 location. For a brief few years in the 2000s they named the regions after the host site. Like "the Omaha region". I liked that better, not sure why they switched it back

The Sweet Sixteen locations are geographically correct- Atlanta for the South, LA for the West, Boston for the East, and Omaha for the Midwest. Of course it's a little weird that none of the remaining ACC teams are in either the South or the East, but who would have thought Miami or UVA would go down to #11 or #16?

Confession time... my dad was a Tarheel!

BUT he brought me up taking me to Clemson football and basketball games when we moved to SC so he kind of made up for it. Still he pulled for his school but for my sake and especially my sisters he was a Tiger fan as well

We're living in the "post truth" era.

Geography is inconsequential.
