Hey Ladies and Gents -- Don't Forget to Get that Flu Shot

It's time to get that pre-Winter Flu shot. Don't know what strains will be dominant this year but be prepared.

Last week when my daughter and I were in Pittsburgh, we drove by the Carnegie/Mellon Campus. The building was gone but I showed her the site where I spent two miserable weeks in a temporary infirmary with the flu during the winter of 1943-44. I was attending Carnegie Tech with about 45 other GI's and we had a Flu epidemic. No one escaped.

The day before I was released there was a heavy snow storm. When leaving the temporary infirmary, I slipped and fell on a patch of ice and broke my left thumb. The temporary infirmary did not have an Xray machine so it was off to the regular infirmary for repairs.

Hey Joe, talking about infirmaries I had Flu too in 1959 & rested in Clemson's on campus

and after about dying it seemed for 5 days I was released & could barely walk back to dorms over The Loggia!


In 1966 i broke my right hip in a snow storm as a married senior at Clemson & was taken to school's infirmary for morphine shot b/4 Jeep ambulance picked me & wife up at 11:30 pm for long slow trip to Greenville General with snow coming down.

LOL Joe! Good advice.

I'm sitting here with 2 sore arms, as I just got a twofer from Publix yesterday. Flu shot in left arm and shingles vac in right arm.

Happily the $10 gift card covered my beer purchase on the way out ??!
