Gibson catches everyone off guard, commits to Tigers just before kickoff

2014 safety prospect Jefferie Gibson surprised everyone when he committed to play football at Clemson shortly before the Tigers took the field against Georgia Saturday night. Why did he choose Clemson? Full Story »

How good is this guy? We need 4 and 5 star players

AND surely after last night's game, recruits would be excited to be part of the Clemson family. I hope this kid is great. We need and can get GREAT players, not good players.

We need players that have talent, but also ones that can be coached. Given the last few years, I'm not that sold on the star rankings. I assume that since we offered, our coaches think they can coach him accordingly. I'm certainly not going to complain.

Agree. Even a walk on can be talented.

And coaching a 3 into a 4 isn't so hard most of the time.

CJ made one of the biggest plays of the day when he picked up that punt in the inzone and ran it to the nine... a walkon....
By the way the punt was touched inadverdantly by a 4 star .. boulware.

Boulware was blocked into the ball

therefore the refs would have treated as a no touch

badge-donor-05yr.jpg

Probably but it would not be the first time we got a bad

call. He should have been nowhere near that ball at that point.

i 'm glad cj took that call away from the refs.

ugay missed 1 fg (bad snap)when a muffed punt resulted in a short field drive, i sure as heck wouldn't have wanted a bad call ( because he was blocked into the ball ) to give them another shot.

If the ball tounches the ground in the endzone

before it is touched by a player then it is a touchback. Since they did not call it a touchback, it was a live ball.

Doesnt matter, it was great instinct and

awesome that he kept it together and saved the play. Which makes the point above. Stars aren't everything.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Grady Jarrett a 3 star? Looked great last night.

Jarrett finished as a 3 star, but he was a 2 star when tigers offered. Miss St was the only other D1 school to offer him.

"We need 4 & 5 star players CRAP!!

Dabo, Brent, and CHAD KNOW!! Obviously people with the "4 &5 stars crap, DONT!!

Care to guess what Ben Boulware was rated when he was first offered?????

Give me kids with talent obviously, but give me kids that are ALL IN as well.

Go Tigers!!!!

tf7,
names of 3 stars starting for us now... Jarret, Shuey, Shatley and more.....
I would rather have a 3 star that is coachable and a team player for 5 years the a 4 star with the same qualities for 3.
Best case is guys like boyd that are 4 stars and stay 5.. they get a show at post season awards... But I love guys like Humphries,, Rod McDowell, Shuey, Shatley, Darrel Smith.

Mcdowell was a bigtime 4 star recruit***

Coming from a small town without a lot of attention you won't get scouted by the big boys, but Clemson digs the woods around here for talent. Josh Watson, Sam cooper, and Gifford Timothy were all unranked recruits coming in. Not even 2 stars that are stars on this team. Take guys like Breeland, Jenkins, Shuey, Brandon Thomas, Grady Jarrett, Tyler Shatley...all those guys were 2 and 3 stars that have been coached to stardom. Let the coaches do what they do and trust their decision making. I think Dabo and this staff know what they want when they offer a kid.

His highlights look pretty impressive. He is a head hunter, has a good instinct and is a sure tackler. I believe that is what we want in a defensive player.
