Connor Shaw vs. Mike Glennon and chance he is as productive?

Diffrent style

Nov 18, 2012, 12:09 AM

Shaw is more of a moblie QB, and ran all over our defense last year. And our defense is even worse this year. So our offense will have to score a lot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Our defense is worse this year?

Nov 18, 2012, 1:23 AM

Okay

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Glennon is an NFL level QB, Shaw...

Nov 18, 2012, 12:11 AM

will be working at the grocery store in his home town in GA when he is through with college. Shaw is nowhere close Glennon as far as passing ability.

Passing NFL QB vs Running College QB

Nov 18, 2012, 12:12 AM

Both talented at college level. Both have demonstrated an ability to give our overmatched Defense a hard time.

BUT next week Shaw will meet his match. Score BIG Tigers! Tigers win 34-31!

I really hope it isn't that close but I will take a one

Nov 18, 2012, 12:14 AM

point win if we can break the streak and win 11 games!

after seeing how wide open the middle of the field was

Nov 18, 2012, 12:15 AM [ in reply to Passing NFL QB vs Running College QB ]

i'm really concerned about his ability to gash us with the zone read....really hope the DLine and LB's step up huge next week

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Two completely different style QB's

Nov 18, 2012, 12:15 AM

Shaw is not even close to the type of pocket passer Glennon is, and Glennon doesnt have near the mobility Shaw does. Glennon is a more NFL type QB.

If Shaw has 500 yards passing on us next week, we're in trouble IMO.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Shaw probably can't make a lot of those deep throws that

Nov 18, 2012, 12:16 AM

Glennon made. Shaw rarely sits in the pocket more than a few seconds before he takes off and runs, but Glennon had great feet in the pocket and did a very good job stepping up ,and moving away from our rush and then getting the ball out down the field.

However, running QBs have given us trouble for a long time now, and that will be the major threat from Shaw. Can we stop it? We will have to move our safeties into the box to stop it and then get beat deep?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Shaw is plenty good enough with the deep ball to beat us

Nov 18, 2012, 12:19 AM

if we have poor coverage like we did today.

Hoping today was more a result of looking ahead but that is wishful thinking. Glennon is a #### good QB though. If we contain Shaw from running I think we shut down that offense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Today was pretty much what we've seen all year when we

Nov 18, 2012, 12:27 AM

played teams with good QBs and decent receivers. Shaw may not be a future high-round draft pick, but he can get it to WRs that get behind our DBs with little problem. I don't expect next week to miraculously be different, and all of a sudden the light to come on for our DBs in week 12.

It always seems like shaw has a bailout play to Bruce Ellington when he gets bottled up on the run

Nov 18, 2012, 12:23 AM [ in reply to Shaw is plenty good enough with the deep ball to beat us ]

He is ok with the deep ball but he has been helped out by some guys coming up with jump balls (GA & LSU). The guy has been able to hit some guys who have been wide open because of scheme (to Spurdicks credit) but I haven't seen him make as many throws like Glennon made today all year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, that's what i was getting it. Shaw's deep passes are

Nov 18, 2012, 2:33 AM

usually set up well. Glennon missed a few throws today, but he has a huge arm and can make any throw on the field. Shaw can't do that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Here's the bottom line: No, Shaw isn't an NFL prospect like

Nov 18, 2012, 11:22 AM

Glennon. No, Shaw doesn't have an arm like Glennon, and he may not be able to make "all the throws". Yes, maybe Shaw has benefitted from having his throws "set up". And maybe he doesn't throw the deep ball as well as Glennon.

But wake up - none of that matters, BECAUSE

If their receivers get wide open behind our DBs, like everybody's receivers have all year, Shaw won't have to be an NFL QB, he won't have make "all the throws". He won't have to have anything set up. he is plenty good enough to hit those wide open receivers.

Rest assured they will be looking for that, and they will set that up, and they will hit some of those. Again, we likely will have to score a lot of points to win.

Sorry but our defense isn't worse than last...

Nov 18, 2012, 12:16 AM

years defense. Sure the defense was terrible today, but they made some key plays that prevented state from scoring more points. Last years defense would'nt have done that. Today was a setback as far as defense, but the defense had shone improvement over the course of the season.

Running QB's haven't given us trouble this year***

Nov 18, 2012, 12:18 AM

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Really? Here are the three running QBs we have faced.

Nov 18, 2012, 2:37 AM

EJ Manuel - 12 for 102
Logan Thomas - 21 for 99 and a TD
Tevin Washington - 16 for 104 and 2 TDs

That's not trouble?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And those are worse than last year?

Nov 18, 2012, 3:49 AM

Theyre playing better than I expected this year. With BV comming in to an underdeveloped defense I couldnt expect much.

Re: Really? Here are the three running QBs we have faced.

Nov 18, 2012, 4:41 AM [ in reply to Really? Here are the three running QBs we have faced. ]

ej's the only one that hurt us. logan ran when he had no one to throw to, and tevin plays in a triple option offense, he will get his yards. all in all, the mobile qb isn't hurting us as much as it did last year.

shaw can hit a pass here and there but if clemson gets up by at least two td's it will be difficult for the chickens to catch up. shaw is not a gunslinger hence spurlid will pull him for the other guy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Duke had a good QB and good receivers...

Nov 18, 2012, 12:50 AM

and the defense did good against them. Only other game that the defense did this bad was at FSU. By the way Shaw is not a good passer. If you stop him from running good, which has happened multiple times this year, he can't pass worth a d@mn. And the shamecocks have terrible receivers. Also Shaw has a hurt foot, so his ability to run will be limited next week

COVER THE TIGHT ENDS NEXT WEEK.

Nov 18, 2012, 1:02 AM

That's all I can say.. NCSU gave us fits today with short passes to the tight ends. Justice Cunningham isn't a joke, and the ends are a huge part of USuC's offense.

shaw has a good qb rating, because he uses a bunch of dump passes. he probably only averages 5-7 yards an attempt, with alot of that yac. he is no where near a glennon,as far as arm.take away his run, and we win going away.

Nov 18, 2012, 8:09 AM

If our offense plays the way it is suppose to Shaw is an after thought if they get down early they are in trouble.. the defense feeds on our offense if you haven't noticed.. we might not have the defensive line we had with Moore, Thompson, Brown, and Branch but if we get up and Vic Beasley and Malicah Goodman can bring pressure and Shaw is not going to just be able to run to keep the game in reach.. So this game is more on our offense than it is our defense..
