Biggest interceptions in Clemson history:
Jul 25, 2014, 10:07 AM
|
|
1. Charlie Bauman against Ohio State in 1978
2. Willie Underwood against coots in 1980 (he had two and one was for a TD but the first one was bigger and set up the go ahead TD to put us up 13-6 in third quarter)
3. Antwan Edwards intercept for a TD against Coots in 1997
4. Stephone Anthony's intercept to seal win in Orange Bowl
5. Leomont Evans intercept of Taneyhill in endzone in Columbia in 1995 to seal win and set up Emory Smit's run dragging several coot defenders down the field.
I'm sure I missed a bunch. What else?

It pretty much sealed the game and McDaniel dislocated Ponder's shoulder. I hope kearse can do the same against Winston. That would be awesome!

Does Gaines Adams taking the ball from the kicker in the Wake game count as an INT? If so, I loved that one.
Also, and I can't remember the game, the pick-6 by Kortnei Brown a few years ago. It's fun to watch big DE's steal the game like that.
Of course, the Charlie Bauman and DD picks will always be at the top of my list.

The two most enjoyable interceptions in one game were by Rex Enright Varn in the Usuck game his senior year in Death Valley. The PA announcer always used his full name when making the call due to the fact Rex grandfather was an ex head coach at Usuck named Rex Enright. Rex was our CB.

It was the "our Brown is better than your Brown" game in which Jerry Butler had a TD catch right before half.

Sealed the 13-6 win over the defending national champs.....of course a lot of the credit goes to the pass rush on this one. It's around the 5:16 mark.

Someone above mentioned Rex Varn. I think the year was 1977. Charlie Pell's first year and we opened the season against a top 10 ranked Maryland.
Final play before the half, MD is about to take a 14-0 lead and Rex intercepted and took it about 100 yards the other way to go into the locker room tied.
We ended up losing the game 21-14 but I always felt that may have been one of the turning points of the season. We suddenly know we could play with anyone.
Beat UGA the next week.,

"Hurtin' Buckaroo,"
Kearse's interception helped seal in Clemson lore the Tigers' role in spreading "Hurtin' Buckaroo" across the nation.
Not saying that was the best of the best interceptions, but it sure was fun.
And, by the way, I think Mr. Kearse may have many more big plays up his sleeve in the future.
