so is that saying when the orange bowl is a semifinal, acc automatically gets a playoff spot? that doesn't seem correct and wouldn't be fair. couldn't other conferences do the same thing with the other bowls? i think either i or joe schad is just confused

ok, so what does that mean then? we cant force a non-playoff BCS bowl to take us. would the orange bowl have to have two games? (like the year when they are the national championship game as well)

We would play in another BCS game, not the Orange.***

without another bowl signing on to that agreement, how can the orange bowl force them to take us?

So, if the Orange is one of the Semi-Finals along with, say

the Rose, and we were ACC Champs and were not selected for the 4-team playoff, and thus could not play in the Orange, then we would be guaranteed a slot in either the Sugar or the Fiesta, regardless of where we were ranked.

Yes it is, in all years they don't host a semi final....

..the ACC champ goes to Orange (unless the ACC champ is in the playoff, in which case the next best ACC team goes).
Pretty simple.
The years teh Orange DOES host, the ACC champ (if not in playoff) will go to another of the now 6 "BCS/Champ series" bowl games.
The ACC came out pretty well in this.

imo its implying the 2semifinal games will be played amongst a yearly rotation of specified "BCS caliber type bowls"(orange bowl is included), and the ACC champion will be in the orange bowl on a yearly basis unless one of the semifinals games happens to be in the orange bowl that year...in this case, if the ACC champ didnt qualify to be a semifinals participant when its the orange bowls turn to host the semifinals, they are still guaranteed to be in one of the other "BCS caliber bowls" that hosts semifinal games, but just isnt hosting it that particular year...so as long as the ACC champ is still ranked in the top 12 they get to play in a top tier bowl, whether its their normal orange bowl or an off-rotation semifinal bowl.
this sounds like great news to me i like the sound of these tie ins so far
