I’ve got a project right now that’s like $70,000 over budget.

Gonna go up by another probably $40,000. Started out as a $232,000 project. It’s a gotdamn nightmare. At least after we get done trying to test/measure the flow rate through a possible weld defect at 5200 psig in a few weeks that we’re having to do for free, we still have the second of two samples to test (and that test has been extended from 28 to 90 days) FML and FTC (FThisCustomer).
Manager welcomed me to the company right with giving me this as my second project knowing that the customer was giant PITA and needy AF (and after he’d let them talk him into reducing his bid by about $50,000). As soon as they awarded us the project they immediately switched the test order from testing the one sample we already had the full setup for to expediting the one that we had to do all new design for. I can’t wait to be done with this #### and then get their next request for work so I can tell them the fuckoff.

I worked for about 6 months to get the costs lined up--came in ROM ~$12-14 million.
The BOD and finance complained, said we'd have to do it cheaper, never would be able to raise that much cash, etc. 4 years later they spent $16 million to finish it.

granted, it's not due to anything architecturally
*and, technically, that's over the 'target budget'. Our estimate was +$3mil from the get-go

and it's lookin like $500M.
Which is weird they were awarded anyway given the fact the previous proj, bid at $13M came in at $50M
But I guess that's progress, right? 200% over budget versus 384% on the previous jahb.
