I’ve been bitten by a slider but never a snapper, and I can say that slider bite hurt like a mullyfugger.
I did not get close enough to see if she would try and bite me.

I tried to measure something that was 7 and 1/3 inches... and that stupid app kept sayin 4.75”.! Yeah right! (I’ve never used a tape measure. Just eyed it in the past. Seemed big enough for me.)

Seriously, sex can often be determined by the size of their claws.
If unsure, one can check underneath. When viewing the ventral surface, the plastron (belly shell) has a certain shape, and the cloaca/vent (exit hole) is closer to the body of the female. I flipped her over with a substantial stick to see her plastron and vent.
