O’Daniel should have pulled up?

Dec 4, 2016, 8:44 AM

He easily would have made the play, there was no reason to even get into a position where targeting could become an option.

The game turned on that play.

Fortunately #4 and the Tigers executed and closed out another great and gutty win. I am so proud of the team and happy for them, but to beat Alabama, we cannot commit mental mistakes.

Go Tigers!!!

Respectfully disagree. It was a mental mistake and it obviously cost us throughout the remainder of the game. Look at the back-up's performance. I think you are wanting a 1 play pyrrhic victory for a big highlight hit. The problem would have been neutralized with a simple tackle.

where do they find you people. dorian did not lead with the helmet. it was just unfortunate that his helmet hit the other guy. it was the correct call but it was not purposeful targeting.

You're exactly right. By the wording of the rule, the correct call was made. The problem with the rule is that you're asking players to avoid something that is sometimes impossible when you're playing football. They need to take into account the offensive players change of direction and whether the defender could have avoided the helmet contact.

It's ridiculous that the player is ejected from the game when the helmet to helmet is obviously not unintentional.

Maybe they should do something similar to basketball where they have a flagrant 1 and 2. If it's ruled an intentional flagrant then the player is ejected. Otherwise, it's just a 15 yard penalty.

I agree with you that the offensive player shouldn't be able to duck his head.

But with that said from the clip I saw on tigernet the player didn't duck his head.

No it isn't. Concussions are an issue. Great rule.******

Agreed. Instead of trying to make a highlight play, just make a tackle. The game seemed to be different after that play.

he lead with his shoulder, the receiver lowered his head

Dec 4, 2016, 8:48 AM

at the last moment, is what i saw

Re: he lead with his shoulder, the receiver lowered his head

Dec 4, 2016, 9:18 AM

and that is my problem w the rule. It implies the D can choose the hit and the O does nothing to avoid, flinch or lower their head which is false

It is a garbage penalty unless it's blatant. That being said he should have just wrapped him up. No need to go for the "highlight "hit. Bama doesn't.

that's what I am getting at, why even give the option

Dec 4, 2016, 8:55 AM

to happen ... for the receiver to duck ... or the refs to make a judgement call.

Don't even put yourself into that situation?

Have you watched bama at all this year? Had about 5 hits like odaniel's in the Texas A&M game and never got called.

I'll take it. After that our tackling sucked... lacked effort.

You won't see bama taking plays off

Not pulled up, necessarily

Dec 4, 2016, 9:08 AM

Just hit him lower. Easy decision b/c he had time to think about it. He saw the play develop from the beginning.

Re: Not pulled up, necessarily

Dec 4, 2016, 10:20 AM

Hit lower and it causes a fumble.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For those saying it's a garbage penalty and weakens the game

Dec 4, 2016, 9:28 AM

That's really not relevant. Somehow we need to incorporate the rule into our training. He saw that play developing from a mile away. He needs to set himself up to be able to make the tackle while minimizing the risk of getting that penalty, even accidentally.

Dec 4, 2016, 9:43 AM

Agree, he made a mistake but college football is a big boy game and things like that happen.....only a few years ago that would have been called a great play by him......Go Tigers!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He knows that now. He just had to wrap him up, but..

Dec 4, 2016, 10:07 AM

we were taking it to them at the moment and just wanted to bring some energy and make a huge hit. It was an accident and it just didn't work out and he accidentally got his helmet in there. A little bad luck.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If hits like that were called in the SEC CG, half of Bama's

Dec 4, 2016, 10:40 AM

D would have been ejected...
