Heather is CORRECT on this one AND ...
May 24, 2012, 3:04 PM
|
|
when its all said and done, I bet the Conferences will insist, nay may I dare say, FORCE ... an eight team playoff....
As noted by TigerTalk, there is HUGE money in a playoff format, and the money would go to the Conferences as oppossed to the Bowls, as in our current format. A four team playoff is no good either, because again, its just raarranging the deck chairs on the Titanic to preserve in essence, the current rankings/Bowl system.

2 questions:
May 24, 2012, 3:08 PM
|
|
1) Why would the Pac-12, Big 10, Big 12, and SEC support an 8-team model as opposed to the 4-team model?
2) Why would the Pac-12, Big 10, Big 12, and SEC support automatic bids for the ACC and Big East?

8 teams = 4 games = $$$$ then 4 teams = 2 games = $$$$ then 2 teams = CHAMPIONSHIP!!! $$$$
The main point is the Bowls do not get the money, the competing team conferences do... the Conferences make the money, not the Bowls. TigerTalk talks about the scenario well, essentially, formation of "power conferences" are putting a squeeze play on the "4 team playoff" concept. They want a playoff also that is more then 4 teams, the more teams in the playoff, the more money, and as a side benefit, fairer way to determine a National Champion .... listen to TigerTalk por favor, they explain it a lot better then I can.

For the sake of argument, let's assume an 8 team playoff
May 24, 2012, 3:27 PM

and an automatic bid for the ACC. Assuming there are two at large bids, do you honestly envision a scenario where one of those goes to the ACC? Realistically, the "Big 4" will take those bids every single year. If the games are as profitable as we think they will be, it will only serve to widen the revenue gulf between the ACC and SEC, Big 12, etc.

So Bowls make no money but the Teams make the money????

If you really think this is how it works, then you are just clueless. Teams lose money on going to bowl games all the time. And these Bowls are making plenty of money....why do you think we have a new one pop up every two years!

Sure, but if you consider the conference champ game as R1,

then the Big 10/Pac 12 game and the SEC/Big 12 game would be Round 2. Guess who's left on the outside looking in?

Because of the 4 team playoff concept so en vogue now.....
May 24, 2012, 3:33 PM

A 4 team playoff means only 4 teams get to play
Thus, Teams are scrambling to associates themselves with a conference where these 4 teams might come from ... that would be, PAC-12, B-12, B-10, SEC
I think there are more then 4 teams in any given year that are worthy to contend for National Champion
If we had at least an 8 team playof, ideally 16, then a true champion would become obvious
Clemson if move to B-12, would be wandering in the Dust Bowl I fear
With an 8 team (or better playoff), Clemson could stay in the ACC where they have a very good chance of winning and go to the playoffs, in my lifetime
Per TigerTalk, there is MUCH more money in a playoff, ideally 8 or better team... money would go to the schools, NOT THE BOWLS
Lastly, never been a big fan of Bowls, big exhibition matches....

Maybe this can happen but everyone better stay still. If one team bts the acc the whole thing will blow up. The big 4 will fill up and any future 8 team playoff will be 2 teams from each of the big 4. The acc still has a punchers chance but one more hit and tbey are out. Every member has to stay pat.

What's funny about the whole thing?

Clemson is not going to the Big 12, never was, never will. As the reality of things becomes clearer, It is fun to watch all you homers squirm around calling ESPN retards. Pretty funny. Hey, Dinich knows way less about Clemson than the Dude, right? ROTFL. Clemson IS the ACC. Always was always will be. Would be like turning your back on yourself. Maybe if everyone get of of TNet for once and look around, you would see that the country is laughing at us yet again. It's kinda like when David Lee Roth was invited back to Van Halen. Ha Ha, jokes on us.

We,the tiger nation. Just cause I don't want to leave the ACC, and just because I never believed we were going to leave doesn't mean that I don't love Clemson. I just am not too fond of all the absolutionists in here that think that they know more than a woman. Most didn't even go to college, much less attend Clemson. They get all their knowledge from tweets and blogs from people that have NO love or affiliation to Clemson University. To those people they deserve all the humilation and heart break that they are about to receive when we officaially announce that we are staying in tha ACC.
