Question for licensed engineers-

My county requires buildings more than 1 floor in height be stamped by an engineer or architect.

I'm designing a garage addition that essentially has the 2nd floor built into the rafters. The rafters will be tied to the ceiling joists to prevent outward thrust. At the center of the building I have designed one engineered laminate beam to carry the load of the 2nd floor.

I will be doing all of the construction myself.

Is it an ethics violation if I stamp these plans if structural isn't my specialty? It's pretty basic stuff that's all in the IRC (with the exception of the laminate beam - however still easy to calculate the PLF of the beam) and its my house (which I feel like plays a big factor here as well).

It'll work.

If it collapses on yours and your neighbors kids, are you prepped to sue yourself, and be sued?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

to be able to put a room up there with a 7/12 pitch. Stick framing so I don't have to rent a crane
