Clemson has losing record against 4 ACC teams
Sep 19, 2020, 9:36 AM
|
|
Pitt 1-2 Miami 5-6 FSU 13-20 GT 32-51-2
This year’s revised schedule affords an opportunity to bring two of these to .500 and continue making up ground against the Noles and Jackets.

Most of the games against GT were played at Atlanta. The history of our record against most SEC teams is similar (GT was in the SEC for the majority of these games). The SEC teams would not travel to Clemson, and had "home cooking" with SEC Refs. There wasn't a great chance for us in many of those games.

I’m 36. I fully expect to surpass GT in that series during my lifetime.

Hopefully, despite the GT home cooking and great past teams we will right the ship.
Clemson is the best football school ever right now, we are as dominant as it gets in the 20’s. We could win the 1st 3-4 Natty’s of the 20’s.
Go Tigers!
Trying not to be partial here! .......lol

Some of these "claimed" National Championships are shaky. Especially some of the older Championships (Pre 1970). Can you redo this with AP National Championships only? It will change your numbers dramatically.

Clemson doesn't have any of those old Natty's either
All that matters is the modern era
but they count
we need a few more NATTY's any way you cut it

I'm sorry, but I believe in ONE true National Champion. And for many of these years, it's just a popularity contest. There are so many different organizations crowning different teams that for many years multiple teams claim the title. In other years the Champion lost in bowl games because the final poll was before the bowl games. Many of these are at least suspect if not fraudulent.

they were #1 in the Coach's poll, not the AP.
The AP poll starts in 1936 and seems the most reliable of options.

With respect to Pitt they have only 1 Natty in the last 83 seasons (1976). Most are during an era when they were not actually voted on by coaches or writers. Ancient History IMHO.

That is correct, except for 1937, the second year the AP started crowning a champion. I give them 1937.

We could be ahead of GT in 10 years by 1 game. Without playing them in the Natty, if we played them in the Natty we could be ahead in 4 years.

Ha! Technically you are correct sir. However I have no confidence in GT winning the Coastal that much or making the CFP.
It would be good for Collins to make Tech relevant again. It is a really good, traditional rivalry for Clemson.
