Welp, the wife has been laid off from her EHS manager's job

Dec 17, 2013, 4:39 PM

Today was her last day, because her boss, the HR Manager, is very cool and decided it would be a good Christmas present to let her have the paid time off, over and above her severance.

It's the little things, really.

The prayerful among you need to keep her in your thoughts. The noodly appendage worshippers, whatever y'all do to send good thoughts.

her lifetime. Enough to where she has a little knot in her stomach as the Holidays approach.

However, a phone interview tomorrow afternoon could make things start looking up, even though the job is 58 miles away. The diesel Beetle may start paying some dividends if that comes to fruition.

Job prospects are popping up as we speak, but being 55 and having your position eliminated is definitely crappy.

But the time off is much appreciated, no doubt, it's just that you can't stop thinking about the reason for it.

woes is that all your problems can go away with a single phone call. Here's hoping that tomorrow is the call.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Already had two other calls for other jobs this morning.

She is very highly respected in the safety field in our area. She's personally responsible for helping many employees spot early health issues, and instituting qualification physical testing to avoid hiring folks who can't actually perform the tasks required.

Phone interview leads to face-to-face interview which leads to new job and starting new job while still collecting a check from previous job! #winning

Dec 18, 2013, 10:34 AM

Part of the severance is 3 months payment for COBRA insurance coverage that I would love to pocket.

FYI Mumbo it used to be that you could pay Cobra

Dec 18, 2013, 10:48 AM [ in reply to You are reading my mind. ]

retroactively, so you can avoid paying it unless it turns out you have to have it. Not sure how long that grace period is - I think 90 days or 6 mos. Also not sure if cobra still works that way, this was years ago I looked into it.

...I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent.

That sucks. Hope she's taking it well.
