Weather delay / reasoning for delay

Obviously, we have beautiful weather here in Clemson all day and could have played. So why the delay? We are here in the press box and learned a few things....The decision to delay the noon start was made at 11 a.m. When they reached noon, every forecast they looked at were for heavy downpours and forecasts between 1:30 and 2:30 or even 3:00. The coaches said they didn't want burn through pitching and maybe have a game delayed and burn valuable arms they couldn't afford to burn.
Yes, the school and the coaches had input but the decision was made by the NCAA in Indianapolis. The NCAA also said they didn't want an elimination game to be decided with long delays, causing critical pitching decisions to be made.
So why couldn't they play once they realized the weather would be good? They sent the teams "home" or back to the hotel a little after noon, and since both teams wanted a full pregame routine (fielding, batting practice, etc) the decision was made to delay til five to give them that choice.

Yet, we will hear of great conspiracies for years to come if we lost tonight.
Sometimes, maybe most times, reasonable people are in charge of these things despite the reputation of a buffoon group of people in Indy.
