We are 2016 National Champions for good. It never goes away.

No team is really "defending national champs," - they are simply "[year] National Champs" permanently.

wining the green jacket at Augusta. We've won two and just finished in the top 4 for a third one.

We have been to three playoffs, won one, runner-up in one and lost semi in one. That is exactly what Bama had done in the playoffs prior to tonight.

But back to the original point. I understand what the original poster was saying and appreciate it, but a national championship is forever.

Exactly... We will always be 2016 national champions! I guess I meant to say " we are still 'reigning' national champions... "
