Was that really a bad loss last night? Thought the team

Feb 8, 2017, 8:27 AM

played pretty well. We played against a unique system with a great coach with little time to prepare. They made a great play at the end.

Tough way to lose, but I thought we played well.

Yes, it was. Ok, they made a play at the buzzer.

Feb 8, 2017, 8:34 AM

A kid hit a big shot. But a wide open shot, with no defenders anywhere close to him. He!l, I think we still had defenders in the back court! Brownell said there was confusion about the personnel on the floor...on a last second attempt to win or tie the game and our staff got confused about the personnel? At home no less? That was a bad loss.

"IDIOT POSTER OF THE MONTH SO FAR...GWP-- You have won IPM Award for your failure to completely comprehend a clear post & then choose to attack someone who points out your ignorance. While you are not yet in the same No Class Catagory as deRoberts, ClemTiger117 & Tigerdug23, you are getting closer to the Sewer Dwellers." - coachmac

They did play well, and hard.

That's the point.

How many big leads have the failed to keep this year, before half and at the end of the game?

At some point coaching has to come into question for all but the most blind fans.

Jack got beat MANY more 1-run games than he won. One year it was something like 1 out of 17 streak.

And I don't want to even talk about how many close games at the end Tommy boy lost.

We played great like we usually do we just do not have that killer instinct to close games out like our football team had.

Giving up a 10 point lead at home to this down cuse team,

Feb 8, 2017, 8:53 AM

I'd say yes.

With wins over #6 FSU and #9 Virginia in their previous 4

Feb 8, 2017, 9:12 AM

games, a 16-9 overall record and 8-4 ACC record, it's hard to say they are a "down" team.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

exactly

Feb 8, 2017, 9:42 AM

and this 'Cuse team was ranked in the top 20 pre-season and early in the year

they had some issues early in the season, but seem to have dealt with them

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

can't criticize the effort

Feb 8, 2017, 9:03 AM

they played hard and well, for the most part

as BB said post-game, a very solid offensive game...'Cuse gives up 69 points per game, and the Tigers got 81

a few defensive lapses - they go too many lay-ups - really hurt

Re: can't criticize the effort

Feb 8, 2017, 9:09 AM

I agree. Lost a close game to a good team. The ACC is really good this year.

When you're 2-8 in your last ten games

Feb 8, 2017, 9:24 AM

they are all bad losses

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, it was a bad loss. They might have played well

Feb 8, 2017, 9:34 AM

on the offensive end, but this is the worse half court defensive team I've seen at Clemson in a long time.

Unfortunately rebounding wasn't good enough. Lost the margin by nine overall and by six offensive rebounds.

Feb 8, 2017, 9:58 AM

YES it really was a bad loss
This team had the game won and lost , the last 2 mins of the game was awful.
Throw the ball to the other team , could not get the Ball inbounds up by 2 and just let them take an open 3 for the win.
So yes this was a terrible loss

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IMO it was probably our 2nd worst loss (ignoring margin)

Feb 8, 2017, 10:07 AM

in the ACC this year behind the VT loss at home. We really needed to win both of those games and we came up a point short both times.

The last seven seconds displayed some really poor coaching***

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

If you look at it as one game, it was not a bad loss....

Feb 8, 2017, 12:07 PM

It's the context of all the other losses that makes it bad. This was a 'must win' from the climb back into the tourney picture standpoint.

Obviously, the effort was there. And I thought we had a good plan against their zone that was well executed for the most part. 81 points should be enough! We led for about 90% of the game too.

What killed us (aside from the typical defense and rebound lapses) was the stretch of the game where they pressed us. We broke the press well, would get a 2 or 3 on 1...and then we did not convert. Happened 3 or 4 times. Everyone remembers the turnover against the press....but the real issue was not converting those chances while we had a lead.

Also, the inbounds play, both offensively and defensively again cost us.

Tough loss...sad to see.

They made a great shot but he shouldn't have been that open if the coaching staff hadn't butchered that situation.

Are there any losses that aren't bad at this point?***

Depends on your point of view. For those who are wanting a change, it's considered a good loss.
