Ty Cobb and Joe Jackson?

Jul 24, 2019, 10:17 PM

Why didn’t either attend Clemson (prior to going up to The Big Show)?

The AJC reported that Ty Cobb attended a Clemson vs. GT football game shortly after signing with the Detroit Tigers.

I don’t know about Cobb, but Jackson was illiterate.

Joe Jackson was illiterate because he never went to school. He was sweeping floors in a textile mill in upper SC when he was just seven years old. To this today, a Joe Jackson autograph is worth over $100K. The reason being, there are so few of them. His wife taught him how to write his name.

That is fascinating, it was such a different era then

Ty Cobb was well educated (his father was a school administrator in northern Georgia).

It’s incredible that they were both from the same general area - two of the all-time greats of the game.

I guess that means Cobb could have gotten into Clemson. Jackson would have had to go to Coot U!
