To answer, why no slant routes?

Oct 25, 2019, 4:13 PM

We have tried many and often the passes are knocked down at the line of scrimmage by a D lineman. It is the job of our Olinemen to block low on these throws. A low block makes the Dlineman put his hands down to protect against the low block. I’m not sure if we don’t teach the technique or not. Other teams do it with success.

I wonder why not more wheel routes to Running Back.

My memory is that we have a very high success rate with them for big yardage and then bury them in the playbook again.

Because our RB’s aren’t very good at catching passes, ENT9 was a very raw football player when he got to Clemson.

Since when do RB’s run slant routes?

#1. We're really missing hunter Renfrow. He was the slant route go to guy.
#2. Kendrick was going to be the 3rd receiver to replace Hunter, but a cornerback left a year early and we took our best slot receiver in Kendeick and moved him to CB.
#3. Amari didn't come back from injury until after the GA Tech game and just started hitting his stride a couple weeks ago.
#4. Our 2 starting receivers in Higgins and Ross are deep threats because of the 50/50 balls but they are not speed burners or quick route runners...... otherwise were fine everywhere else.

Many teams find great success using their BIG receivers to run slants because the ball is protected better.
The WR from Troy scored 2 TDs against us virtually uncontested: run the playfake to pull Lamar up, throw over him to the WR. Boom. Easy 6.
TL seems to prefer a skinny post; maybe he prefers deeper routes because he needs more time to find the laces on the ball.

Jk.

No idea.

Our qb being too short

Is not the reason

Maybe slants and tight end seam passes are coming when there is more at stake, if you know what I mean.

Also doesn’t help that TL locks on

That’s a good point, TL does tend to lock in on his primary target.

In addition, TL has a long, slow release allowing D lineman and linebackers to anticipate the their throw and get their hands up.

In comparisons, Tua has a much quicker release allowing him to get his slant route throws out before the defense can get their hands up. The slant route has been Bamas bread and butter this year.
