World record setting balloon release at the Clemson-Maryland game in 1983. It's amazing how time flies. I think the record is now a crazy 1.6 million. Too bad, I would have loved to see them try it again.

That's terrible. This is part of the reason why there is a helium shortage now and the price has skyrocketed. Glad they stopped wasting so many balloons and helium like they used to, but wish they'd figured it out sooner.

Our shortage today is NOT because of party balloons. It's because the government flooded the market with cheap helium from the helium reserve over the last decade driving out exploration from private industry. Now that the government helium teat is drying up, the market is scrambling to restore order. Don't blame bozo, blame congress.
