The actual suffix is used to pluralize French nouns, not to make verbs look all Frenchie-like.

“this spelling originated from English illiterate people having to make an "x" mark at the end of their printed name in order to sign a legal document.“

“the ‘x’ ending is completely arbitrary.”

Silly stuff.

Anyway, FWIW:

-eaux is French. It is a proper suffix. It is pronounced "O", and no (or neaux) the "x" is not arbitrary. In real application -eaux denotes the plural of-eau. -eau is also pronounced "o".

So (or seaux) Louisianians in deference to French and Acadian roots have fun with the reference.
That's all.

Point well taken regarding the plural suffix, but it makes my point beautifully. “Geaux Tigers” is a misappropriation of the French language - it trumpets misuse and promotes grammatical error. It, in a sense, encourages a history of marginal literacy to persist with pride.

Anybody ‘round these here parts what says “Go’ses Tigers” is regarded as a fool...

I don't know about "misappropriation". Geaux is obviously not a french word. Nor is "geaux" an actual French Acadian (aka Cajun) word. It's just a play on French phonetics.

The -eaux suffix is not uncommon in names fairly unique to southern La.
Thibodeaux, Boudreaux, Robicheaux, Arceneaux, Frémeaux, etc.

Anyway, that's where the "Geaux" or "Jeaux Burreaux" stuff originates.
Just folks having a little fun with the French heritage.

No different from phonetic plays like "From me 2U" or "WiFi stand when IP"

Based on their paltry academic ranking per US News (153)...

which, incidentally, is lower than uof6's (104), it appears illiteracy may be a prerequisite for admission for the corn dog cologne wearers.

Is it their cologne or some other disgusting bodily emission that produces that smell
