The reason I'll Have Another is out of the Belmont has to

Jun 8, 2012, 11:43 AM

revolve around Las Vegas money.

Every year, the winner of the Kentucky Derby has odds in the 200-250/1 range that it will win the Triple Crown. And yet every year, Vegas Casinos/Sportsbooks receive somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 million worth of bets on the chance of the horse doing so. That's a potential $7.5 Billion hit for Vegas should the Horse make history Saturday. Now the horse is off the boards and out of the race??!!!!

hmmmmm....something's fishy.

I'd hope that the owner would not do such a thing for that reason.

He'd also stand to make millions if the horse wins just on stud fees alone....now not racing him, he's lost millions.

Do you think I'll Have Another woke up this morning with a human head in his stall?!? HA!

Yep, Vegas paid off the owner, just like...

Jun 8, 2012, 1:14 PM

Yep, Vegas paid off the owner, just like South Carolina paid off the umps, SEC coaches pay the players, and the SEC pays the refs. It's all a big conspiracy and is now coming full circle! Wait til' next year Clemson!

People always think Vegas is involved in everything horse

racing. The owner stood to make a lot off stud fees for IHA had he won the Triple Crown. And, it being the first Triple Crown since 1978 made it even more special. The horse had swelling twice after working out and the beginning of tendonitis. Of course, they are not taking a chance with him on the track in the longest race of his life.

If that is indeed the case, I have the utmost respect for

Jun 8, 2012, 1:42 PM

the trainers and owners for not putting the horse at risk. No race is worth the horses life---but I would've loved to see IHA win the triple crown!

All I know is that I witnessed 3-4 Triple Crown winners

Jun 8, 2012, 1:44 PM

I saw it won by Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, (wasn't there another one??) in the early 70s and since then, there has not been a single one.

I mean, we're talkng about 3-4 in one decade and then no more for like 40 years.

What's up with that??

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There were 3 in the 70s - in fact, Seattle Slew.....

Jun 8, 2012, 1:55 PM

and Affirmed were back-to-back in 77 and 78.

I remember watching Secretariat in 1973 - unbelieveable!!

There's no conspiracy - it's just that with animals anything can and more times than not does go wrong.

Secretariat was amazing- I remember seeing a story on him

Jun 8, 2012, 2:43 PM

once well after retirement where they said the all other horses on the farm would not eat until he was finished. aparently even he knew he was Secretariat

Too many horses are being bred

Jun 8, 2012, 1:56 PM [ in reply to All I know is that I witnessed 3-4 Triple Crown winners ]

And they are not as durable as the horses of the past. The breeders need to bring in new stock from Europe to strengthen the Thoroughbred breed in the US. They did just before Secretariat was produced--brought in Princequillo.

The more I think about what you just said, the more I believe it.

I'll Have Another is being retired due to the injury

Jun 8, 2012, 2:33 PM

according to his trainer.

Re: I'll Have Another is being retired due to the injury

Jun 8, 2012, 2:42 PM

Wonder if Vegas had anything to do with this injury!
Seriously,there goes The Belmont.
If Tiger winning Jack's tournament had anything to do with positive ratings for the up coming U.S.Open,this has got to have ,imo, the opposite effect on The Belmont.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Definitely will hurt the ratings

Jun 8, 2012, 2:52 PM

But, they did the right thing for the horse. And next year it begins again...
