Remember when Tommy B said

Jul 21, 2014, 7:58 AM

We need smaller o linemen to run his offense? What a mistake that was. O line is where you win or lose most games. Thank God for Dabo we now have the no.1 online recruits in USA

I believe he said that at a time when

Jul 21, 2014, 8:04 AM

Woody didn't need no stinking lineman.

Tommy Bowden's call...

BUBBLE SCREEN! For 3 yards.

I absolutely hated the dreaded bubble screen, and what's worse is that everybody knew it was coming. It rarely fooled anybody. I'm so glad that our offense is so much more diverse now.

Tommy did a lot of good things during his tenure....

Jul 21, 2014, 8:40 AM

as Clemson's head coach but I would be lying if I said I was sorry to see him go.

He essentially took us from 6 wins a year to 7-8 wins

a year (regular season). If we were satisfied with that, he's our guy; but that's about all we were ever gonna get on a consistent basis.

I really wasn't referring to his on-the-field results.

I know - and I agree.

Didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Bowden didn't take us to the next level, but you have to give him credit for vastly improving recruiting over what Tommy West did. After Bowden was let go, we were left in much better shape than when West was let go.

No doubt.***

It was a good time when he would whip SCAR though. I miss

Jul 21, 2014, 9:50 AM [ in reply to Tommy did a lot of good things during his tenure.... ]

that about TB and we didn't use the excuse "well Scar has never been this good" like we do now. We should be improved enough to still beat them. Five years is too long.

I vividly remember how bad it was when TB began. Indeed he helped Clemson a lot ... on the field, academically and the overall player character all improved while he was coach. Yes, despite the above, I too agreed that it was time for a new coach when he was fired.

I appreciate Tommy Bowden, not so much the head coach but the man that brought us out of that stink from the 90's.

Yes, but I've been trying to forget.

The one thing I'll always hold against TB is the plethora

Jul 21, 2014, 10:11 AM

of horrible, and i mean HORRIBLE, losses. Just trying to make a list of the worst losses of TB's tenure will make your stomach curl. Here are some candidates in chronological order:

2000 Clemson 7 @ FSU 54
2001 Clemson 3 vs UNC 38
2002 Clemson 6 vs NCSU 38
2002 Clemson 15 vs Texas Tech 55
2003 Clemson 0 vs UGA 30
2003 Clemson 17 @ Wake 45
2004 Clemson 10 @ UVA 30
2004 Clemson 13 @ Duke 16
2006 Clemson 7 vs VT 24
2007 Clemson 23 vs VT 41
2008 Clemson 10 vs Bama 34

Obviously some are slightly less horrible than others, but there are a lot of painful memories here, and there are plenty more 3-score losses i didn't even bother to add.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And yes Dabo-haters, i know he has a handful also.***

Me too.

We always had one or two unexplainable losses every year Bowden was here. I still shake my head at some of those games

bad losses over a 9 1/2 year period.

Jul 21, 2014, 10:25 AM

If you watched our teams in the 80's we didn't have the big offensive lineman like ND, Penn State, Nebraska, or Oklahoma. We had smaller athletic lineman.
