The Standards The producer of my radio show, Thomas Black, made a great point the other day when talking about Clemson baseball. We were talking about expectations and how high my expectations were for the program. He corrected me. He said my standards were still high but my expectations

No kidding...lol! Holy Cow, Mickey seems ready to simply give up.
The state of South Carolina is relatively talent-rich, so fielding a perennial top 25, of not top 10 program is a realistic goal. The Clemson program has "dibs" on EVERY High School baseball player in the entire state (only exceptions are the kids who want to go to South Carolina).
Being happy beating Winthrop, etc...is justified. Every D1 baseball program in South Carolina has legitimate baseball talent, and fields a few players that are good enough to play at Clemson. But settling for being barely better than The Citadel, or CSU, etc... is a pathetic goal given all of the advantages Clemson has in facilities, resources, support, recruiting advantage, conference affiliation over those programs.
Mickey is dead-wrong about Clemson baseball if beating the Winthrop's of the world is his new standard for Clemson Baseball success.

Kind of reminds me of the last few years under Tommy Bowden. Fans got depressed, angry, and some were ready to give up and settle for mediocrity. The baseball program is closer to winning Championships than the football program was when Bowden was fired IMOP. Firing guys like Jack ain't easy. There's a protocol D-Rad is following....and if the season ends with another thud I think Jack will resign, or be replaced.

that there is something wrong. We have still had top recruiting classes. The talent is on board. The ability to coach and hold players accountable for their mistakes is whats gone. You spare the rod, you spoil the ball player. Bench them and let a few get splinters for not running out grounders and pop outs. If you put a pitcher in to a job and he doesnt do it, go out and yank him. Don't pat him on the a$$ and tell him good job. Hold them accountable and they will grow as players, students and men!

I know the two incidents you are talking about. I posted after this week's game about it. The two players would have earned some serious bench time on my team. Not hustling is an unforgivable offense in my book.

give up the ship and slide all the way t0 Hades. If DaBO is a good example of what "can be" if you get on the bandwagon & sell it, recruit for it, bring in new coaching blood, get the fans riled up..
Then, let's go RoCK it TiGERS!

Mickey,
I do respect what Jack has done at Clemson as well. You are right the days of Benson, Koch, Vinings, Baker and the host of other big time players making it to school are gone. I remember several years ago when Greinke and Bumgarner had committed and we all know what happened there. Pro baseball has made it so difficult on recruiting nowadays, but this is something all schools are having to deal with. I think player development has suffered and not to mention the turnover of the coaching staff. Jack has had numerous assistance that has taken head coaching positions. That speaks highly for the coaches and Jack molding them to be head coaches. I still think Clemson with all the tradition and amenities that we offer should have a better than average program and we as alums and fans should expect no different. Sorry to be long winded, but I expect better.

and demand accountability from our baseball coach and AD. There is no reason why the program cannot perform at an elite level if that is who we want to be. Adjusting expectations for some perceived "new reality" is bull#### and not what Clemson baseball fans should be doing. Are we trying to make DRad's job easy by adjusting our expectations or putting him on notice that his job status is tied to W/L records as well.
