The 2 longest offensive drives for the Coots this year

Dec 3, 2013, 1:02 AM

were on last Saturday against us. Like Georgia Tech 2010, they hung onto the ball for 2/3 of the game. After you tack on the stupid turnovers, how do we really expect to win? I know, we'll go even more up tempo and pass the ball even more.

Turnovers were the reason they won time of possession

We couldn't stop Shaw fron running. He absolutely kept the drives alive.

they converted almost 50% of their 3rd downs. That's why they won TOP.

Fully realizing this is a silly, pointless argument, but:

Without the turnovers, we win that game walking away. They scored what, 21 points off our turnovers? 28 maybe? I stopped keeping track after it didn't matter. But *despite* them having 2 extremely long drives, the game's outcome was in question until the early-to-mid 4th quarter. Keep in mind that we had at least one extremely long, clock-eating drive ourselves. Their long drives are not at all what lost this game for us.

it's part of the recipe for stressing uptempo, spread teams.

when you stress players, they are at greater risk of making mistakes.

you try to stress them in practice. how many times have you heard swinney or morris use the exact word, but you can't always duplicate that in game experience as much as you try.

when you play keep away from a team that lives and breathes on it's pace, that generates its passion from the O side, they get anxious. they try to make something happen and press. you can see it in morris and swinney on the sidelines & i believe it's what we witness in game from the players.

is it what lost the game? nope, just a piece of the puzzle that leads to it. once again, fewer moving parts, the basics, won the game.

Dead on! One team is playing their usual ball control game, the other is always racing against the clock, trying to throw more passes. Which team has more chances of making critical errors in big games? I read a quote from Ellis Johnson, a couple of years ago, about his thoughts on this. In his mind, the HUNH offense is high reward, but also very high risk! Ironic now that he is Malzahn's DC, but it looks like Malzahn likes the run much more than his protege Chad.

i think chad would like to run more traditional read option.

Dec 3, 2013, 8:24 AM

as much as i like tajh, think he's a great passing qb, he's not a great read option qb. i don't think morris lied to us when he said he was a run first guy[balanced attack], i just don't believe tajh is a great motor for morris to do so.

it'll be interesting if that gives kelly & watson the edge in the qb battle this spring.

well it also helps that you try to play fast and had 3 possessions of 3 and outs that problem used a minute of the clock. Also what killed you was our 3rd down conversion rate. I think we were 8 for 10 in the first half before all of the turnovers happened.
