Lack of ICU beds and ventilators was the initial excuse

Jul 6, 2020, 7:17 AM

Now it’s simply that the hospital system Cannot be allowed to be full....
They set up field hospitals that were never used; this message chit from the medical community has gotten old and stale.
Let people govern their own behavior. The vast majority will do the Right thing!

Over $6.5mm wasted on field hospitals here in MI. They could have, at the very least, quarantined nursing home patients at these field hospitals.

What a boondoggle.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.
- Jonathan Swift

That's still the excuse.

There's a lag. Most people ignore that. When a hospital system gets full that means it's already overwhelmed. Today's positive test is next week's hospitalization. Then several more weeks and today's positive test is a death. Then up to several more weeks for the death to be certified (depending on the state). Texas, AZ, and Florida have all backtracked. And the results of those changes won't be reflected for two weeks. That's two more weeks of cases growing exponentially.

It would be nice if everyone did the right thing. The vast majority still don't wear masks. It's the people demanding that people be allowed to do the right thing that aren't doing the right thing. Heck. Let BLM have their wish and close the police departments. The vast majority will do the right thing. Right?

People doing the right thing... Fireworks have always been banned in LA. For a long time. LA fire departments responded to a record number of fires.

What are the folks at MUSC saying? Now? Projections?

Jul 6, 2020, 8:33 AM

IDK the details in SC ... BTW treatment practices are trying to reduce the use of ventilators. Patients on ventilators have crap odds for survival.

FL hospitals are getting full and elective surgeries have been curtailed in some places. Visitation also pretty much eliminated. The Sunshine State now has the daily record for most cases surpassing New York at their peak. In Manatee Co. 332 kids tested positive, statewide total is 11,515. Since many of these child positives are recent, their outcomes are not known. School reopening and staying open will be the “must win” game. Every elective official, politcy decision and much government effort should focus on what needs to be done for schools to have a successful year.

non critical care pediatric nurse.

Beds are filling up rapidly over the last two weeks and non-critical care nurses with critical care skills are being asked to assume critical care roles.

We didn't get into specifics, but their major complaint was that far too many people were not following the simple rule of wearing masks.
