I don't think the ACC is going to take Doeren's position and say "all is well." Watson is the face of the conference and the best hope for Heisman Trophy and College Football Playoff; and opposing coach takes a cheap shot on the sideline? I don't think he's going to sleep well tonight.

Coaches Should Never Hit a player unless in defense. Fire!

He should be fired. This isn't two coaches going at it. this is a coach hit an opposing teams player....An apology is nice, but that doesn't change what happened.
He should be fired

Woody's was much more flagrant. Really, the incident didn't look so blatant to me, even on the replay, but I couldn't hear what was said. It did look like DW looked astonished, so maybe it was worse than it looked.

Please people. He barely touched him. Football is intense and emotional. I suppose you all think Chip Kelly should be fired for touching his grad assistant too.

you're confusing "ok" with "resolved"

It's not okay, but when it's minor, it can be resolved by such apologies. Don't confuse the accountability fad with actual discretion, discernment, proportionality. Doeren and the AD ought to sit him down and eat his lunch about his juvenile act, but that is their business. All these calls for firings are just a product of our partisan orange-colored glasses. If the guy apologized, then he resolved the matter in relation to Watson and the team.

All in all, there were tons of jackazzez!!! I was of course, wearing my Clemson hardhat & robustly cheering our Tigers on... When these yanky-ish old-timers (no offense for y'all real gentlemen... ??) from behind me all started chastising me & saying we needed to leave & we had to shut up and not cheer or get excited about the game..... L o l So naturally that didn't go well for them, but the bad part was how vulgar & ridiculous their opinions were! They were every bit as bad (or worse) than thUGA & Shamecluck fans!!! ?? had a blast, hoarse now... Great Win!!!!!!! Exciting game..........
......almost tooooo exciting ??

Yep. Should be a sideline penalty, 15 yards. A coach can get a unsportsmanlike conduct. They didn't hesitate calling one on us in the Orange bowl vs the nuts. And out coaches didn't shove a player.

No one is asking why DW is turning his he's and pointing his finger. We'll never know of he said anything but it seems to have been something that just generated a reaction.
This is not comparable to the Hayes punch in any way shape or form

He doesn't need to be fired of course, but this guy just needs to be disciplined.
An adult, paid professional coach does not get a pass on swinging at a player during a game.
Ever.

While I'm not really in the camp of "FUR HIS ###," I would say this needs to be shown to recruits. You are only as good as your weakest link on staff. If they hire someone like that that does not have restraint or consequences given to them from the head coach, then what mamma would want their kid playing for them. Play it up Tigers and let's take a few recruits

The guy slapped him on the back of his helmet. It didn't look very hard. He shouldn't have done it, he apologized, and all is well. It's not like he punched Watson or kicked him in the groin or something.
It's hilarious some of you want him fired. Suspend him for a game, fine him, make him take a sensitivity class, whatever. But don't can the guy over this.

Apology accepted ... but he should face disciplinary action too.
What would be appropriate? I dunno. But, you can't simply let it go and say it was "emotion".
Overt physical displays of aggression like are what teenage players get forgiven for. Not adult coaches.

So, everyone is overreacting, but sensitivity classes would be reasonable? Huh. Yes, everyone is overreacting, but sensitivity classes would be a major overreaction to. Sensitivity classes are nothing more than cultural marxism enforced. Screw that.

For my part, the big deal is that the coach is a leader, a more responsible party. He ishowed himself to be a person who cannot control his emotions well enough to not hit a kid, one not even on his team and which is not at all given to lack of emotional control himself. Mthere is simply no excuse.
Yes, fire the guy. He is a bad actor and a loose cannon. He is going to cause greater problems later on based on this unprovoked altercation. But, ultimately, it is not okay to go about hitting folks just because you are having a tough day at work.

Not a big deal??? He hit a star QB's throwing shoulder
Nov 1, 2015, 10:52 AM
|
|
Some of you say its not a big deal but it's very very inappropriate for a coach to hit a player. What if he injures Watson's throwing shoulder with that hit? Players have torn ACL's just standing or jumping in celebrations, don't tell me a shoulder couldn't be hurt from this hit. It could happen and our season would be OVER. We would likely lose an ACC championship game bid (congrats FSU....again) , possible loss to one of the worse coot teams in years, and certainly no national championship run. How would you feel then?
To be honest I would want the HC and RB coach fired if that happened. There is no excuse for what happened. Doeren is a complete liar too, he was staring at the incident from 10 feet away.

ClemsonTiger1988, I normally agree with everything you post but you are way off base in this analogy. It's over, the coach apologized and Deshaun and Dabo have moved on to more important things, FSU this week!!
